After eight long days of runway shows and one exciting #NYFWCrawl, New York Fashion Week is finally over. While models were strutting on the catwalk, we were busy taking mental notes and forecasting the fashion trends for next Spring. Stripes, metallics and ’90s sporty references top our list of looks to look forward to.
Check out our roundup of the top 10 New York Fashion Week trends:
Boxy Boy Cuts:
Designers like Phillip Lim and Victoria Beckham ditched the figure-flattering silhouettes for a boxy boy cut. Here’s to a little gender-bending and fashion flexibility next summer.
’90s Fashion Flashback
Designers like Alexander Wang and Kate and Laura Mulleavy for Rodarte were inspired by the ’90s fashion scene. Get ready for ’90s sporty references all Spring long.
Sheer Bliss
Whether it was sheer layering or a sheer insert, Marc Jacobs, Jason Wu and Monique Lhuillier showed us why sheer detailing won’t be going away anytime soon.
Crop Tops
Thanks to designers like Tracy Reese and Vivienne Tam, the trend of baring our midriffs is here to stay. After becoming a wardrobe staple this past summer, get ready to see crop tops again next year.
White on White
Will “all white everything” ever get old? I don’t think so and neither do Prabal Gurung and Lubov and Max Azria for BCBGMaxAzria.
Black and White
I couldn’t be happier that my favorite color combination will get another season to shine. Black and white is chic and classic. Next spring, you’ll get your chance to add more to your wardrobe thanks to Carmen Marc Valvo and Christian Siriano.
Swirl Print
Psychedelic swirls will be a hit for Spring. Just ask Peter Som and Tom Mora for J. Crew.
Ruffles
Zac Posen and Georgina Chapman for Marchesa used dramatic ruffles to make a huge statement on the runway. Let’s hope the ruffles tone down a bit before hitting the racks.
Stripes
Horizontal and vertical stripes also made a huge statement this Spring. While stripes are bold, Christian Siriano and Badgley Mischka played it safe with a classic color palette.
Metallics
A few days into #NYFW, I was sure metallics would be trending for the Spring. I’m glad my prediction was right! The metallics Joseph Altuzarra and Diane von Furstenberg sent down the runway are chic, not cheesy. It’s all about adding a touch of shine to an otherwise muted look.
Glamazons, what were some of your favorite trends from #NYFW?
