Glamazons,
I’ve received so many questions about my Fashion Week routine that I figured I’d answer in a quick post. Since Fashion Week is essentially like an 8-day marathon of blogging, networking, partying, writing and event-hopping, it makes sense that I’d need a survival kit. And I’m not just talking about beauty products (though I have quite a few faves): my Fashion Week survival kit involves tech (for blogging on the go!), water (to avoid things like passing out) and even stain remover. Totally serious.
Here are the 10 things I rely on to get through the week:
1. La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Eye Lift Cream
During Fashion Week, sleep becomes a thing of the distant past. And yet, everyday I need to wake up and not look like I’m a zombie who broke free from the set of “The Walking Dead.” This is especially true when you’re a blogger and everyone around you is taking pictures that will end up online (you don’t want bags under your eyes for those).
La Prairie Eye Cream is truly magical in that it makes you look refreshed, rested and, well, younger. I swear by it. Get it here.
2. Dove Clear Tone Skin Renew Deodorant
In a crowded area backstage at a fashion show, in the elevator headed to a swanky event, sitting across from a magazine editor whose calendar you’ve been trying to get on for months—all places where you don’t want to smell less than fresh. And let’s not even mention the prospect of white deodorant stains (or sweat stains!) appearing on your dress when you’re trying to grab that once-in-a-blue-moon interview with a celebrity or designer backstage. Dove Clear Tone Skin Renew is the one deodorant (and I’ve tried them all) that I always go to in order to avoid any mishaps and stay fresh from my 9am morning show to my 1am cab ride home. It hasn’t failed me yet!
And the very best part? It works to reduce underarm dark marks which I’ve suffered from for a long time. Stay tuned for an update in a couple of weeks on how it worked for my dark spots. In the meantime, you can pick it up here.

3. Dr. Scholl’s For Her High Heel Insoles
Is there any other way to walk around in heels all day? It’s amazing how comfy your heels become with Dr. Scholl‘s For Her High Heel Insoles inside. They give my arch and the balls of my feet the support needed to make the trek from Lincoln Center to the trailers backstage to the event downtown to the late dinner in Harlem and so on and so forth.
In fact, I have inserts to go with each of my shoes now, based on the part of my foot that hurts the most. That’s how much I need them in my life. Snag a few here!
4. Polar Seltzer Water
Last Fashion Week, I had an incident where I was dizzy and light-headed and had to go home and miss the night’s events (remember that?). After that scary day, I swore I would remember to hydrate and yes, feed myself during the day no matter how busy it gets. I love Polar Seltzer Water because it gives me an extra kick without caffeine and the flavors are delish. My favorite is pineapple passion fruit. AND it’s low on calories (you know I’m trying to keep this waist snatched!). I kept a cold bottle in my bag all week. Stock up on some here.
5. Windows Phone Nokia Lumia 1020
OK technically, I don’t own this camera phone yet but it’s on the top of my list for Fashion Week in February. I can’t resist the urge to blog and post every moment during Fashion Week (it’s so exciting) but picture-taking presents an interesting dilemma.
I can take the clearest pictures known to man on my DSLR camera, but then I can’t post until I get to my laptop. Or I can take a sometimes fuzzy pic on my phone that I can tweet right away. Decisions, Decisions. I’d mull over this each time I went to an event until I noticed my blogger friend, Makeda, taking incredible pictures and video with her phone: a Nokia Lumia 1020 Windows phone. Eek! All my deepest tech desires fulfilled in one perfect camera phone. I have to have it! Do any of you have this phone? If so, I’m jealous. I’ll be getting mine from here very soon.
6. Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes
I know I had SheaMoisture‘s phenomenal facial scrub in my #NYFW Beauty Survival Kit and — you would be proud — I used it quite a few times before bed even though I was dead tired. BUT on those days when I got home and was so exhausted I could barely move, I grabbed Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes to take off my makeup before collapsing into bed. I got them in the gift bag at the amazing GLAM dinner and am so happy for them! They’re gentle on the skin but boy, do they wipe every trace of makeup off your face. They are a Godsend! Get you some.
7. Tide To Go Stain Eraser
I’m that girl that walks away from the dinner table with her entire plate on the front of her dress. Sigh. Seriously, everyone says I have a hole in my mouth (and my family calls me “Miss Piggy” because I love glamour but am the hottest of messes). I could never walk around in Olivia Pope-white without it being ruined by day’s end (how does she do it?!). Anyway, if it wasn’t for Tide To Go Stain Eraser, I’d be changing a million times during Fashion Week. Or trying to play off a sauce stain as a polka dot. It’s a must-stay in my bag. Buy yours here.
8. Eden Bodyworks Control Edge Glaze
Any natural girl who rocks her hair straight will tell you the first thing to betray us is our edges. My edges can tell the weather faster than Al Roker: the slightest sign of humidity and they’re back to kinky/curly. Rain? My edges coil up before the first drop hits the ground.
Eden Bodyworks Control Edge Glaze is all a girl has to protect her edges from the elements. I used just a dab daily, and my hair stayed laid throughout the week. Get it here.

9. Halo Pocket Power Charger at QVC
My life is a constant balance between using my phone and keeping its battery from dying. I have been known to troll parties with my wall charger in hand looking for an outlet. I know which restaurants and bars will let you charge your phone, and which won’t. I know how close a Starbucks (with an outlet) is no matter where I am in midtown NYC. The struggle is real. Imagine my relief when I discovered on-the-go battery chargers. And a cute one at that! My phone never dies (I simply can’t take that risk when you might randomly run into Paris Hilton leaving a show) and I’ve never been happier.
The Halo Pocket Power charger provides up to two hours worth of power and has built-in USB cables to hook up to all of my devices. Pick one up here.
10. Cover FX Foundation/CC Cream
Let’s be honest: no matter how much La Prairie Eye Cream and SheaMoisture Spot Correcting Serum you use, there are some blemishes that will pop up that won’t instantly disappear. Especially when your eating/sleeping/breathing habits are all out of whack thanks to Fashion Week.
Cover FX is still my #1 foundation because it’s great for your skin (it contains SPF plus it’s jam-packed with nutrients) and it gives you full coverage that lasts all day long.
I used the foundation for September Fashion Week but in February, I’ll be all about the super lightweight CC cream. Get it here.
