FIRST LOOK: Tracy Reese x Sarah Jessica Parker Silver Glitter Booties #NYFW

Glamazons,

I’ll always have a soft spot for the Tracy Reese show at New York Fashion Week because it’s where I truly cemented my love for going backstage. You may remember that season I got standing at TR and couldn’t even see the models over the crowd. Backstage was my saving grace back then!

Now that I’ve had a seat for the last few seasons (even behind Whoopi Goldberg and Andre Leon Talley once!), I still go backstage to see the clothes and models up close and chat with the designer. And don’t get me wrong: backstage is only a tad less chaotic as the rush hour at Times Square but it’s totally worth the heat and swarm of people moving in every direction.

This season, there was a nice surprise waiting backstage this season: Sarah Jessica Parker. The Hollywood icon has long been a fan of Tracy Reese, and this year, they collaborated on a shoe collection featuring four styles in fifteen colors and patterns inspired by the Spring 2016 collection.

Like the ready-to-wear collection (details below!), there’s shine, bring colors and vibrant prints and yet the shoes are still as ladylike and dainty as ever.

I watched so much “Sex and The City” in college that whenever I hear Sarah Jessica Parker, I think “Carrie!” This happened once before when I saw her at the Met Gala (she was so sweet!) and backstage Sunday when she whizzed past me, her sparkly black dress swaying as she walked. My recollection of Carrie actually makes sense in the context of this collection: Tracy usually sticks to structured, sharp silhouettes (which the actress SJP is fond of) but this season’s breezy print dresses, whimsical gowns and shimmering blouses: all Carrie.

Let’s get into the collection!

Inspiration: According to the liner notes, the inspiration was: “Illumination. Dawn brings the promise of newness. Bright hues awaken senses. Transparency. Light refracting through layers to reveal new levels of beauty. Organic Structure. Fluidity and ease. Enveloping without constricting. Moments of Shine. Reflecting and sparkling. Encouraging the inner self to shine.”

The Spring 2016 collection traded in Tracy’s usual poise and sophistication for a new, unstudied ease. Silhouettes were languid and effortless as sweeping maxidresses and relaxed silk separates floated down the runway. But Tracy‘s elegant restraint didn’t translate to boring clothes. “Simplicity doesn’t mean minimal,” she told Vogue. The clothes came alive with vibrant color and glittering embellishment that made them celebratory, memorable and most of all, wearable.

Key Pieces: Flowing silk maxis in vivid hues, breezy white wideleg pants, silver moto jackets layered over lace blouses and easy bermuda shorts, a spectacular peach cape romper, colorful floral strapless dresses, bright pink rain ponchos over sexy mini skirts, effortless pajama-inspired separates, sheer t-shirt dresses with retro floral embroidery.

Gorgeous! And P.S. I got to go backstage with SheaMoisture. Check out the inspiration behind the models’ hair:

Inspiration: “Sheer transparency enhanced by ‘moments of shine’ set the tone for the Tracy Reese collection this season. While distinctive details such as color and embellishment came into play, the vision was to keep the woman looking natural and truly authentic. The beauty look completely reflects this – the skin is glowing and dewy while the nails are kept simple in design. With this in mind, I went about creating a no-fuss hair look signified by natural textures and an effortless chignon that perfectly complemented the overall finished look.” – Bok-Hee, Lead Hairstylist

Get the look:

1. Fight frizz and nourish hair by working in SheaMoisture Professional Curl Leave-In Conditioner.
2. Parcel out small portions of hair around the crown of the head to be set aside and gather the rest to be pulled into a low chignon.
3. Apply SheaMoisture Professional Finish Blow Dry Cream throughout hair as you pull it into a low ponytail at the nape.
4. Layer SheaMoisture Professional Vibrant Color Shine Glaze onto strands to provide the ultimate clear shine boost.
5. To create the chignon, gently twist the hair from the nape of the neck to the ends, and then begin to coil it in a counter-clockwise circle.
6. Continue to twist the hair into a bun shape using the index finger to hold it in place. Secure sides of the bun with bobby pins.
7. Gently pull and loosen the edges of the bun to get the desired shape, then secure with more bobby pins.
8. With the remaining wispy pieces of hair, apply SheaMoisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Weightless Texture Spray and use a teasing brush to create structure.
9. Finish by spraying SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Hold & Shine Moisture Mist for hold and hydration.
