Ok, let’s go ahead and state the obvious: sometimes day jobs can be the most banal things in AMERICA. (Side note: If you’re currently sitting at your desk with the “I’d-love-to-be-anywhere-but-here” stamp emblazoned on your forehead, then I seriously suggest you go for a career change. Like, for real…it can be done!) Lucky for MOI, my day job is hanging out on Facebook all day and tweeting (hurrah for social media!) and I always get invited to cool events. Last week, my company was up for an award (Best Social Media Partner) and OBVS we won (because with a Glamazon behind the helm of your social media you can’t help but to win haha). I said all this to say, while at the event gala, I met the amazingly awesome legendary Iris Apfel.
UGH. Don’t you just DIE Glamazons?! I did. But I pulled myself together just in time to snap some photos with her 91-year-old self and asked her if I could move in with her. (She laughed but I had never been more serious in my life.) I also made sure to tell her that both of us had similar beginnings in the publishing industry (just like her, my first NY gig was at Women’s Wear Daily…she made something CRAY like .15 cents an hour and I made pretty much nothing which cracked her up). She seriously inspired me during the small window of time that I spoke with her and (once again) made me believe that dreams really do come true as long as you stay focused. (Because you know living in New York can sometimes make you feel a bit defeated sometimes.)
