Glamazons,
Working in this business I have the good fortune of meeting my heroes. And I’m not talking about celebrities, per se, but the visionaries behind-the-scenes that create such beautiful art that it pushes the culture forward.
Patricia Field was always that person for me. Her work with “Sex and The City,” “The Devil Wears Prada,” “The Other Woman” and more is nothing short of brilliant.
I saw the extraordinary way she dressed Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha and wished, from my dorm room in college, that I could be a part of that world (cue “The Little Mermaid”).
Who knew that years later I would interview Patricia Field for a magazine feature on the very show I watched religiously every week? Or that I’d walk by her as I left the tents at New York Fashion Week and literally gasp and squeal “I love you” in the middle of the street (causing her team to erupt in laughter)?
Or that I’d finally meet her at this screening and discuss with her, of all things, CP time (to which she admitted that she can relate…she has “Greek time”)?
Life can be surreal that way. Another pinch-me moment came when her team sent over this clutch and it came time for me to style it.
In the spirit of Patricia Field, I decided to break a few rules. I mashed up this amazing camo/tribal print jacket from ASOS with the money print of the clutch. And I put a crop top over a dress (sounds crazy but it’s actually a great way to wear crop tops if you’re self-conscious about your midsection, ladies).
I’m not nearly as bold as her (remember when she put Carrie in a crop top and a belt over her bare stomach?! BOLD) but it did feel good to dress with imagination and freedom. And that’s what Patricia Field has always been about.
What do you think of my look, Glamazons?
