AD GLAM: Solange, Selita Ebanks & Cassie Star In New Carol’s Daughter Ad Campaign

If there’s anything to be said about the beauty industry right now it’s this: most brands are lagging behind when it comes to actually showcasing multi-ethnic women on their packaging and in ad campaigns. While Estee Lauder has finally taken a huge step into the multi-ethnic arena by showcasing women of various races in their newest ad campaign, there are several others that we probably won’t see change much of anything for years to come.

While I could go on and on about that and write an essay as why I think this is, I’d digress from the big beauty news of the day which is this: Carol’s Daughter (one of my all-time fave beauty brands!) is launching a huge new campaign all about polyethnic diversity which features new spokesmodels Cassie, Solange Knowles and Selita Ebanks. Aren’t they gorge?! Ugh. I’d die for Selita’s cheekbones!

According to today’s issue of WWD, the spokesbeauties will be featured in upcoming ads for the brand, including their latest launch of hair care products called the Monoi Repairing Collection. Chairman Steve Stoute says each woman was chosen for the campaign based off of their ethnically diverse background. (Cassie is African American and Filipina; Selita is Jamaican, Irish, Indian and African American; and Solange is African American and French Creole.)

“What we’re doing now is moving into a polyethnic space. When I say polyethnic, I mean women who are made up of several ethnicities,” Stoute said. “If you ask them what they are, they’re going to use a lot of different words to describe themselves. That’s in line with the Census data coming out – people are checking much more than two boxes.”

I must admit that these women definitely epitomize the definition of polyethnic! This photo of them sitting next to each other definitely reflects the idea that there aren’t very many people left in the U.S. that are just one race anymore. The new ads will debut in June while products from the Monoi Repairing Collection will hit shelves next month (can’t wait to get my hands on this stuff!)

What do you think, Glamazons? Do you think Selita Ebanks, Cassie and Solange encapsulate this idea of polyethnicity that Stoute speaks of? Do you approve of this photo of them all together?! Let’s talk about it below in the comments section.
