Glamazons,

Though we love to shop and try out new beauty products on this blog, we know that true beauty is less about what’s outside and more about the energy a woman radiates from within. There’s nothing more beautiful than a woman who is at peace with herself and makes her health and happiness a priority. You guys know I’ve recently made changes in my life to be more content with my career and to feel fulfilled in my personal life. To reach that goal, I had to make sure that I surrounded myself with people, images and messages that uplifted me. It’s so important to guard your energy and gravitate toward things that lift your spirit.

That’s why I love My Black is Beautiful (MBIB)’s new 30-day challenge, “Beauty in Action” launched in partnership with nationally renowned transformational expert, Lisa Nichols. They are encouraging women to show their “beauty in action” by sharing daily ideas, inspiration, messages and images that show that beauty is more than skin deep. Whether it’s an image that shows you giving back or an encouraging quote, you can post it daily for 30 days to show your “Beauty in Action” on social media using hashtag #MBIB and #BIAJourney. Just one search of the hashtag, and you’ll find tons of inspiration and uplifting stories to make your load a little lighter.

The challenge also touched Tatyana Ali, who shared why she thinks showing “beauty in action” is so important:

On what makes her black beautiful:

“What makes my Black beautiful has nothing to do with what you see on the outside. My perseverance and my confidence. At the end of ‘Imagine A Future,’ a young woman says, ‘My Black is beautiful because I say so.’ That’s my favorite out of all of them. It’s about confidence. It’s about saying, ‘I am who I am, if you don’t like it, get out the way.”

On what she loves most about the challenge:

“This challenge is for women of all ages. We’re going to hopefully have all ages involved and posting on the Facebook page and that creates a different kind of community and sisterhood and many points of view. The part about action that I love is it’s almost like being in a virtual retreat. Lisa Nichols, an amazing transformational expert, I know her from ‘The Secret.’ If she wasn’t in ‘The Secret,’ I don’t know if I would’ve felt the way I did without her being in it and you have her everyday giving you a challenge and trusting you with taking action. The reason why retreats work is because it takes you out of everyday life and, in this case, it takes you out of your everyday way of thinking and just asks you to take 30 days to initiate these tiny changes in the way you think. They say it takes 30 days to make or break anything, so we’re gonna see the transformation.”

On the importance of positive images:

“We think we can become what we see. Images are the same as the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and what we’re capable of achieving. If positive images are not put there and the conversation says that we can’t achieve it, then we tend to believe it. Part of this campaign on Facebook is creating a space to say it is possible and talk about it– women of all ages can join the conversation. And we have all types of women from engineers to mathematicians.”

I love everything about this, Glamazons! Check out My Black is Beautiful online and on Facebook for more information and join in the challenge on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter using #MBIB and #BIAJourney.

Look out for some posts from yours truly, too. And the great thing about #BIAJourney is that once the challenge is over, you can always search the hashtag when you’re in need of some inspiration. Can’t wait to see your beauty in action!

Kisses,

Glamazon Jessica
