In New York City, it’s not Christmas until the store windows are all lit up on 5th Avenue. It really feels like a modern day winter wonderland, or as close as you can get to it in real life. I get so swept up in the holiday spirit that I don’t even mind the cabs honking as they speed by, tourists crashing into you on the sidewalk and the blistering cold weather…well, as much as I normally do. The sparkling store lights, the carols being sung by choirs on the church steps — it all feels magical. So magical in fact that a bike taxi driver let me saddle up and take a picture on his bike at the red light, smiling and joking the whole time. Smiles from bike taxi drivers? That NEVER happens (I mean, usually they’re aggressively trying to persuade me to get a bike cab ride, which is why I always tell them I’m going to Brooklyn just so they’ll leave me be!). I’m convinced it was the ugly Christmas sweater that won him over. P.S. if you want one, shop my faves here:
