The Year in Fashion: Which Trends Should We Leave in 2013?

Glamazons,

2013 is officially over! It flew by, no? The year in fashion was defined by the popularity of street style. Putting an outfit together was more important than the outfit itself! Trends were less about the look and more about how you made it your own. From mixed prints to contrast sleeves, here are some of the top fashion sensations of 2013.

1. PVC Shoes

We were more than a little obsessed with “Cinderella” glass slippers or pumps made clear by way of PVC material. But we’re not talking about plain old jellies; sexy PVC pumps with cap toes were our shoe style of choice.

2. Graphic Shirts

From parody tees (the ubiquitous “Homies” sweatshirt) to our favorite catchphrases, graphic shirts were all about making a statement this year.

3. Leather Sleeves

Contrast sleeves were everywhere in 2013, but you got extra points if you favored the leather kind. No matter the outfit, they added a little bit of edge and sass.

4. Tote Bags

The days of messenger bags, satchels and purses were long behind us in 2013. This year, it was all about the tote bag. When it came to carrying your belongings, the bigger your tote, the better. And the Celine Phantom luggage tote reigned supreme.

5. Boyfriend Jeans and Coats

We borrowed generously from the boys this year, but gave their baggy jeans and oversized coats a luxe makeover by pairing them with the most feminine accessories we could find.

6. Sheer Panels

We played peek-a-boo with daring sheer panels that materialized either in stripes or strips of fabric that spanned the entire side of our gowns.

7. Shiny Metallic

The more your metallic sweatshirt shined, the better. We went for metallics in the flashiest hues for a look that guaranteed all eyes stayed where they belong: on us, of course!

8. Grid Print

Sophisticated, refreshing and clean, the grid or window pane print almost replaced plaid in 2013.

9. Leather Sweatpants

Our favorite second skin went surprisingly baggy this year with sweatpants in shiny leather material. Celebs seemed to have an affinity for them (hello, Kimye!) but they didn’t pick up as quickly among the street style crowd.

10. Mixed Prints

One of the biggest sensations of the year, mixed prints was all the rage in 2013. Taking our cue from pattern masters like Solange Knowles and Michelle Obama, we created the most unexpected, imaginative pairings from polka dots and leopard to florals and stripes. Wasn’t it fun?

There you have it! Are there any big trends we missed? Which of these looks should we leave in 2013? Which should we keep? Tell us in the comments.

Kisses,

Glamazon Jessica
