Glamazons,
You may look at me and my red lipstick and tulle skirts and think: “That’s the last person that would watch ‘The Walking Dead.” And you’re right. I am terrified (and honestly a bit grossed out) by the thought of a zombie apocalpyse and swore I’d never watch AMC‘s hit show again…until a guy I’m dating said it was his favorite show. Grrreat! In an attempt to look cool, I said ‘Oh yeah, The Walking Dead?! I love that show! Watched all three seasons.’ The cool points quickly went away when he realized I can’t sit through it without covering my eyes, screaming and jumping out of my seat. One episode, I turned my head the entire time and asked him to just tell me what was happening. I know, pitiful.
Anyway, aside from the terror of it all, the show actually has incredible character development. The plot takes everyday people, places them in trying circumstances and shows how they change dramatically to adapt to them. The apocalypse brings the best and worst out of the characters, and shows us there’s no limit to what humans will do to survive. I’m fascinated by villains (that damn Governor!) and heroes (love me some Rick!) alike.
And then, there are the women: bold, tough, smart, independent, aggressive, fearless, capable. Three such courageous women, Michonne (Danai Gurira), Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), make me proud in that they can talk trash and knock zombies out with the best of them. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t live vicariously every time they take charge or kill a row of walkers.
Besides being the toughest girls to grace my TV screen, they also manage to be beautiful even in a Zombie apocalypse (especially remarkable for Sasha who has been sick for most of Season 4). They have the most radiant skin despite the constant threat of dying and turning into a flesh-eating walker. What?! The end of the world doesn’t mean you have to forgo beauty maintenance! Since I consider New York City to be overrun with zombies at rush hour, I’m interested in some of their beauty tips behind-the-scenes.
We’re going to talk about that (admittedly, girly) element of the show, and the state of affairs after the traumatic midseason finale when “The Walking Dead” returns this Sunday, February 9th at 9 PM EST. Join @StyleNBeautyDoc (another huge #TWD fan) and I using the hashtag #Fab4TV. I’ll be tweeting at @Ms_Andrews.
And we’re putting together a beauty gift (with what we imagine Michonne, Maggie and Sasha use to stay so gorge during a zombie apocalypse) to give away to one lucky participant. Talk to you on Sunday!
P.S. how funny is it that they’re pranking New Yorkers in anticipation for the new season? Check this video.
