Spring 2011 Trend Guide: Sexy 70s a la Rachel Zoe and Nicole Richie

Last weekend, I was going through old photo albums with my mom and she showed me pictures of her in the 70s. I learned two things: my mother was a hot mama with a ‘fro, flared jeans and clogs and I wanted everything she was wearing.

And you know what, the easygoing bohemian style of the 70s is quite on trend right now. Think Rachel Zoe and Nicole Richie.

While my mom looked great for the time period, we would look like we were playing dress-up if we copied her look literally.

I think Rachel Zoe and Nicole Richie look so glamazing because they don’t wear the 70s trend head to toe. The key is to make it modern. And the good thing is the pieces that you need to modernize this trend are probably already in your closet!

Something Chambray

I love, love, love chambray. I have two chambray shirts in heavy rotation and I just picked up a chambray skirt for spring. Either of those would be a cool modern way to incorporate the 70s. Wouldn’t a pair of chambray wide leg pants be super cute? I think so. Here are a few other options I like:

Speaking Of Denim, A Denim Shirt

A denim shirt is so reminiscent of a 70s Levi’s ad and yet so 2011. Pair it with printed shorts or a bright skirt for a modern look.

Oh, and if you are going to pair chambray with denim, please make sure that the colors are at other ends of the spectrum! I’m not suggesting a jean suit here.

A Maxi Dress

Umm, we know by now you already have your eye on a couple of maxidresses for Spring. Throw on a maxidress with flats or wedges and you’re instantly channeling 70s boho glamour.

Wide-Leg Pants

I can’t tell you how excited I am that the trendistas will begin forgoing leggings for actual pants. I love my leggings, but I miss when people actually dressed up! You’ll look polished in wide-leg pants paired with something fitted on top.

A Floppy Hat

You need to keep the sun’s harmful rays off that pretty face anyway, right? So why not do it in a chic floppy hat? Wear with a chic pair of sunnies and you’re giving 70s style diva.

Platforms

How could I not include this accessory? This might be the easiest way to incorporate this trend since platform pumps have become quite the staple. Just about everything has a platform now, even flats (a la flatforms)!

70s Style Jumpsuits

Jumpsuits are a trend carrying over from last summer but this time, we see a breezy 70s spin in suits with wideleg bottoms. Pair these jumpsuits with a floppy hat, shades and wedges and just go. And trust us, there’s nothing more comfortable.

I am about to be all over this trend, just putting outfits together made me really excited. Oh and if you need help with 70s inspired makeup Ferocia has your back!

xoxo,

Glamazon Channing
