The Glamazons that follow me on Twitter and read our Glam Scoop news briefs already know — I’ve been obsessing about the Marni for H&M pre-shopping event for weeks! But of course, on the day of, I was running late at the office and arrived at, gasp, 7:03PM. (The event started at 7:00PM). EPIC FAIL. By the time I walked into the H&M on 51st and 5th Avenue a mere five minutes later, there was nothing, I repeat nothing, left on the racks. Clearly, I was devastated and giving all kinds of neck rolls and cries of “how could this happen?” while people walked by with mounds of clothes. Even Versace for H&M wasn’t this hectic!
From there, Glamazons, I went to Plan B. That included literally stalking H&M workers who were putting discarded Marni clothes back on hangers, patrolling the fitting rooms for pieces girls didn’t want and searching the store for misplaced Marni items. Yes, this actually happened.
After about an hour of searching, I picked up the following:
–these adorbs printed pants:
-this printed dress and black polka dot coat:
-a cute skirt in this print:
Not bad! In the midst of all this craziness, I managed to socialize. I ran into June Ambrose, who had snagged a huge pile of Marni for H&M finds. She also gave me deets on her Styled by June show saying the first episode will focus more on her work and we can look to her family, personal life, etc. as the season evolves. CAN’T. WAIT.
I also ran into amazing stylist, Memsor Kamarake, my friend Michelle S., Lorna of The Fabulous Report and my fave, Christina Brown of LoveBrownSugar. And I got snapped by Essence.com’s Street Style camera for the vintage necklace I rocked to the soiree.
After chatting, it was time for the fitting room.
I immediately fell in love with the Marni for H&M polka dot skirt, which I also tweeted last night. The print is so sophisticated, subtle with vibrant pops of color, and I can already picture it with my cobalt blue pumps. For The Win!
I also gagged over this printed dress. It’s super cute with a teal and light green circle print in the front, rooted in brown and a purple and white print in the back. I loved that it wasn’t a super tight fit to give more of an effortless, easy flair. And lived for the pairing of the dress with my necklace. I had to pick it up.
And then, I tried on the printed pants. Glamazons, I don’t normally wear pants so maybe this critique is unfair but that fit was just NOT right! The pants were baggy in the crotch and yet way too tight on my inner thighs. I had to pass on that one as well as the blue and black polka dot pieces which were cute but not in my budget.
I also got really lucky as my friend Christina purchased this tote in the signature Marni print but already scored the maxi (below) and didn’t want another item in the same print.
As they say, one woman’s trash, another’s treasure. She passed the tote on to me which essentially made my life since I was eyeing it from Day One.
Happy with my purchases, I proceeded to catch up with blogger friends over Blueberry Mojitos.
Oh and there were balloons, which all made for an amazing shopping experience at Marni for H&M.
I am counting down the days until Spring to rock the beautiful printed pieces (actually, I may wear the dress today, it’s in the 60s in New York City!).
Did any of you brave the crowds and hit your local H&M to shop the collection today? As we walked away last night, we left a line of folks camped out for the opening this morning (yes, it was THAT serious).
Tell me what you picked up and what you think of my purchases!
