Feel that chill? It looks like cooler temps are finally here to stay. It got down to the 30s this weekend in Alabama. I thought I was cute hitting the town in my favorite moto jacket, but now I realize it’s time to start shopping for a real winter coat. This season, I’m bundling up by taking a cue from the boys. It’s all about the boyfriend coat.
They were all over the runway. Think glorious wool outerwear in oversized and loose silhouettes.
The key to nailing the boyfriend coat is picking the best fit for your body shape and height. If you’re on the petite side you may want to stay away from an ankle length coat. It could swallow you. A mid-calf is better suited and it works well with skirts and pants.
Heavy up top? Double-breasted coats could make your chest appear larger. A single breast coat will be infinitely more flattering.
The great thing about the boyfriend coat is the variety of styles. From mohair to wool, single breast to double breasted, the possibilities are endless. And let’s not forget the bright colors and bold patterns out there!

A winter coat is a big purchase. I recommend investing in one that can stand the test of time and work year after year. I have coats in my collection that I’ve had since 2005! A boyfriend coat has total staying power; it’s more than worth the investment.
