Miami is always one of my favorite places to escape to for a weekend of debauchery, delicious eats and divine weather. I spent last weekend in South Beach for my best friend’s birthday but arrived a day before her and got a taste of what it’s like traveling solo. I actually loved it!
I got to indulge in all my vices: food (News Cafe), sleeping (on the beach), daydreaming (while watching the sunset) and dance (all by myself!), at my own pace. For someone who is always on the clock for meetings, events, deadlines, etc., the freedom felt heavenly. It’s something I may do more often. Do you ever travel alone?
Anyway, besides the weather, I always get swept away by Miami’s flashy culture: the bright-painted architecture, blue lighting, big drinks, fast cars. It’s the land of overindulgence. I got in the spirit by pairing my Peter Pilotto for Target jumpsuit with blue heels and mirrored lens sunglasses. It’s not something I’d normally do but hey, it’s Miami!
Some fun things that happened:
-A young woman, arm-in-arm with an older guy, walked by a group of girls on South Beach and they all started applauding her. “You did that, girl!”
-Someone called me Rihanna. Blank stare. (We look nothing alike).
-This woman was wining it up on stilts. That takes skill.
-Flirting with the waiters and getting free stuff? Never gets old.
-I saw a couple spooning on the sidewalk near the Versace mansion. PDA has a new meaning in Miami.
