New York Fashion Week ended off with a bang with Arise Magazine’s Made in Africa Fashion Show at Lincoln Center. The fashion show featured designs by KluK CGTD, Pierre-Antoine Vettorello, Jewel by Lisa, Tsemaye Binitie, Lanre Da Silva Ajayi , Asibelua and Bunmi Koko. These designers made mouths drop and heads turn with the versatility and creativity of their Spring 2012 collections.
One of my favorite collections was Jewel by Lisa which was inspired by traditional Nigerian clothing. The arrangement of patterns and prints quite simply took my breath away. Vibrant, stylish, youthful and vivacious, her collection was Missoni meets Donna Karan. Don’t you just love it?
Tsemaye Binitie, a Nigerian-born designer, certainly put on a show with his collection entitled Beautiful People. The sheer and leather fabrics accompanied by neutral hues were nothing short of genius. His collection is perfect for the business woman who needs wearable, functional clothing that is still tasteful and chic.
Usually I’m not too fond of mixing patterns to create an ensemble (love the look, I just don’t really know how to do it right!). But Asibelua tingled my fashion senses with her new collection that was all about blending prints artfully together. Her imaginative pairings made for a bold and memorable collection that trendsetters will certainly flock to next season!
Lanre Da Silva Ajayi made me want roll around in a field of flowers with my dream man (ahem…Idris Elba) with her new collection of floral prints. A white gown with sheer, floral and lace print took my breath away. Amaze! Her design style is reminiscent of Alexander McQueen with a delightfully modern edge. Brilliant.
If there’s one trend I LOVE it’s military inspired-fashions. Well, that and spikes. Pierre-Antoine Vettorello gave me both with his Spring 2012 collection.
The collection featured military vests, shorts, spiked mini dresses and easy tanks which are perfect for the girl on the go, whether headed to a night out on the town or a day at the beach.
KluK CGTD Spring 2012 collection offered pure elegance in ultra feminine, ethereal sweeping gowns. As a matter of fact, the 1930’s inspired collection, made me want to have mimosas with Beyonce (pre-baby) and Jay-Z at a Parisian cafe, very Breakfast at Tiffany’s! LOVE IT!
Bunmi Koko’s new collection was all about rich color with dresses in bold, mesmerizing hues. The silhouettes offered a bit of edge and sex appeal for girls who dare to be noticed. I LIVE!
