Duro Olowu is one of those rare and special designers that can give create imaginative, unique and vibrant pieces all while appealing to a feminine, trend-conscious and decidedly practical consumer base.
No wonder First Lady Michelle Obama has worn his clothes, the legendary Bethann Hardison casted his models and Queen Anna Wintour (yes, Anna) attended his Spring 2012 show. Fashion icons and geniuses of that caliber don’t embrace designers on a whim. Special, indeed.
Inspiration: He cited several including Renée Perle, photographer Jacques Henri Lartigue’s muse, Jamaican immigrants who traveled to England on the Windrush boat and his cousins in London.
Key Pieces: Lively printed maxidresses, Black blazers and A-line dresses accented by strips of leopard and floral print, fun colorblocked cardigans and skirts, Light, airy colors and chiffon fabrics that scream Spring.
Who I Could See Wearing This Collection: Totally the sophisticated, chic power woman like Michelle Obama, Sarah Jessica Parker, Katie Holmes, Anne Hathaway.
What do you think of the collection?
While I was there, I was lucky enough to stand thisclose to Anna Wintour who whisked in, spoke with Duro about the collection, gave feedback and was out before you could say Conde Elevator.
I also met Solange Knowles again and her amazing stylist Charles Wade. She also chatted with Duro.
Loved her white and black blouse accented by a red skirt. Tres chic!
Fun!
Kisses,
