Glamazons,
Did you see the Emmys last night? While the show was entertaining, I have to say the red carpet was my favorite part. And yes, it always is but last night, the carpet was unequivocally the best thing ever. All those big voluminous gowns make my life! The first gown that made me gasp aloud on the red carpet was worn by none other than Keke Palmer. She was simply breathtaking in a Rubin Singer Resort 2015 cobalt blue silk and wool strapless paneled trumpet gown. The silhouette and daring neckline let us know Keke is all grown up and glamorous. Werque.
We got the scoop on her equally gorg hairstyle (since when has a ponytail looked more elegant?).
Read on for the tea from celebrity hairstylist Cynthia Alvarez.
Keke Palmer is known for her beauty and sophistication on the red carpet. For Keke’s Primetime Emmy Awards hair, we decided to go with a simple, chic updo to compliment the dress. From the front, it’s very simply pulled back but once she turns around, you’ll see the back has interesting detail. A classic style, with a twist… Literally.
1. To start, I washed Keke’s natural hair with Motions Straight Finish Cleanser, followed by Motions Straight Finish Leave-In Conditioner.
2. A small amount of Motions Straight Finish Sealer was applied and then the hair was blown dry with a paddle brush and Gold ‘n Hot Professional Titanium Dryer. The Motions Straight Finish System gives the perfect foundation for straight, healthy natural hair to shine on the red carpet.
3. After the hair was dry, I straightened with Gold ‘n Hot Rose Gold Flat Iron, followed by a very small amount of Motions Shine Enhancing Pomade for smoothness on the edges.
5. I then parted her hair into 3 horizontal sections. Starting with the first top section, I gathered it into a ponytail using a fabric covered hair tie. Then, using my fingers, made a hole right above the hair tie. I pulled the ponytail down through the hole and retighten the ponytail by splitting the ponytail in two and pulling tightly. I continued this inverted ponytail (topsy tail) for the other sections, pulling hair from the previous pony into the new one.
6. To create make the front and sides sleek and soft, I sprayed the hair with Motions Light Working Spritz and applied a tiny amount of Motions Shine Enhancing Pomade. I tied the hair down, and did not remove the scarf until the style was complete. Using the blow dryer, I set the hair into place, making the sides and top perfectly smooth. After only a few moments, the hair was set.
7. I removed the wrap and finished with my “Go-To”: Motions Hold & Shine Spray. And I topped off the style with some fancy hair bling pins at the base of each ponytail for an Emmys-worthy hairdo.
Keke hit the red carpet glamorous and beautiful as ever, and when she turned around the twist in the back was a pleasant and beautiful surprise!

I especially loved the twist in the back of her hair: it’s so unexpected! What did you think of Keke‘s hair and her Rubin Singer gown last night, Glamazons?
