If you’re not privy to my obsession with quirky accessories, look right and scroll down: there are the alice + olivia “Stacey” face pumps I spotted at Fashion Week that have been showing up in my dreams ever since.
With the (sometimes) predictable trends that come down the runway, a standout accessory is like a spurt of creativity in a sea of bleh-ness. It’s the ultimate conversation piece! This season, my interest was piqued by kate spade‘s patent leather Chinese Takeout box, err, bag replete with a gold metal chain. Scarfing down delivery food has never looked so chic! Miranda Hobbes (yes, “Sex and The City”) would’ve loved this!

Inspiration: Style.com cites creative director Deborah Lloyd‘s trips to Asia and bullet train rides to Shanghai and Tokyo (my fave city to visit…everrr!) as her inspiration. “I like the juxtaposition of the old-world quality of riding in a train car with the fact that it can get you somewhere in an hour or so,” she has said. Besides the literal references (“Hello Tokyo” clutch and Chinese Takeout bag), there was the reoccurrence of bold red color, which symbolizes good fortune and joy in Chinese culture.
Key Pieces: bright peacoats, shiny satin separates, printed jackets, embellished blouses, fur hats, imaginative bags (a drop handle birdcage, gold metal fan, “Hello Tokyo” clutch and yes, that takeout box)
