Glamazons!
Don’t you just LOVE Essence Magazine? The publication now run by Constance White blew me away with the September offering, which of course is the most fashion-focused issue of the year.
The issue boasts an in-depth look at why there are no high-end black rockstar designers with Pulitzer-Prize winner, Robin Givhan’s piece, “Where Is Our Valentino?”. Tastemakers June Ambrose, Tai Beauchamp, Bevy Smith, Claire Sulmers and DJ Kiss are profiled in an editorial rightfully called “Simply Fabulous.”
And Lola Ogunnaike, Bevy Smith, RuPaul, Karen R. Good and yours truly penned essays for a feature story called “In My Own Fashion.” My essay is about dressing for yourself vs. dressing for a man and the personal journey I took to find the right balance between the two. To see my heartfelt story next to some of my heroes in a magazine I’ve read since I was a child?! Let’s just say it was like living a dream. So humbling, thrilling and inspiring at the same time.
And the good news keeps coming! Today, I woke up to news that we were included in Essence.com’s 40 Fab Fashion Blogger roundup beside our own Glamazon Channing (yes, she has her own blog that you must check out), Jared Lowe, Christina Brown, Kathryn Finney, Claire Sulmers, Samantha Smikle and more!
