#MFW: Spanish Flamenco Skirts and Cherry-Stained Lips at Dolce & Gabbana

Glamazons!

Ironically, the show we’ve all been waiting for at Milan Fashion Week (obvs Dolce & Gabbana) took its cue not from Sicily but from Spanish culture for the Spring 2015 collection. Or better yet the Spanish influence on Sicily (the Spanish occupied Sicily for 300 years, the designers explained).

The line felt feminine at times (with its roses and delicate embroidery) and powerful and bold at others (hello, matador jackets and bullfighting shirts). The color palette followed suit with varying shades of red mixed up with stark contrasting hues of black and white.

Even the beauty look (dark hair slicked back with a middle part, full brows, red lipstick and even red roses in the hair) brought to mind Spanish beauty icons.

And speaking of that iconic dark-haired beauty,  we all were treated to a sighting of one Kendall Jenner who actually led the pack of matadors at the finale.

I love how that Dolce & Gabbana closed the show with an army of models in white shirts and high-waisted embellished shorts. It immediately brings to mind bullfighters preparing for battle (or, for a more modern reference, Beyonce‘s army in “Who Run The World (Girls)”).

Here are the deets:

Inspiration: Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana drew their inspiration for their Spring 2015 collection from the Spanish influence on Sicily between the years of 1516 and 1713. It made for a melting pot of Spanish and Italian textiles, and a matador-esque vibe. From the flamenco skirts to the flame red lips, the Spanish influence resonated loud and clear.

Beauty Bonus: Drawing from the designers’  inspiration (Spanish influence in Sicily), Pat McGrath created a complementing look with cherry stained lips and a classic Dolce & Gabbana eye.
