Glamazons,
Boy, this is so overdue! I asked you guys about which hair vitamin to choose eons ago. But I wanted to give myself time to adequately review each hair vitamin by itself before finding one that works for me, and sharing the results with you guys.
The Decision
If you missed my original post about using hair growth vitamins, catch up HERE. I listed all the listed side effects/benefits of each which all weighed into my decision! So since then, I tried each of the vitamins in the post — Hairfinity, Biotin and Viviscal — and settled on Biotin. Here’s why:
Hairfinity has different results for everyone but for me, I broke out right away (on a date no less). Since I hadn’t really ever battled acne before, I wasn’t trying to start now as an adult! I did notice hair growth though so it does work and perhaps you won’t battle the same side effect.
Viviscal didn’t bother my skin at all but I did have a few nightmares (random, right?) and my hair grew…but it was super thin.
Biotin was the only one I tried that didn’t give me grave side effects (besides my hair growing fast…everywhere). But more importantly, my hair simply had the best results with Biotin.
The Results
OMG — my hair is so much longer and fuller than it ever was before. Even my hairstylist Seto noticed. I told you guys I devastatingly had some breakage along my edges as a result of poor maintenance (*hangs head in shame*) but thanks to Biotin and this 1-2-3 routine to grow back your edges, they are flourishing! And my hair isn’t just retaining length, it’s achieving thickness. I can finally pull off a full ‘fro and I’m so happy for the density because before I started taking Biotin, I didn’t think that was possible. I use Nature’s Bounty 10,000 mcg and take one per day. I’ve been taking it religiously for about 2 months. I can’t wait to see my growth by the end of the year (and of course, I’ll document it).

That bun! Can you even?! I should note that retaining length isn’t just about the hair vitamin you take: getting regular trims, cleansing, deep conditioning, moisturizing, wearing protective styles and wrapping your hair at night (hey, bonnet!) all play an important role. Here’s a quick timeline since I started taking Biotin daily and wearing my hair out (not in protective styles):
May 2015
June 2015
July 2015
I’ll be doing one more protective style (twists) before the end of the summer and then, straightening my hair for some time during the winter (just because wash-and-go‘s get really dangerous when you walk out into cold air). Stay tuned for a growth update once I hit the 6 month mark!
In the meantime, let’s chat: do you use hair vitamins? What’s been your experience with them? Tell me everything in the comments!
Kisses,
Glamazon Jessica
