When it comes to hair, it doesn’t get much more legendary than Diana Ross and Michelle Obama. So to talk #LegendaryStyle, Optimum Salon Haircare tapped Tracee Ellis Ross (who was no doubt raised in the ways of her iconic diva mother, Diana Ross) and Michelle Obama‘s hairstylist Johnny Wright.

The two hair gurus met up for a hilarious chat about famous coifs and also dropped a few jewels about achieving healthy, hydrated hair.

Here are two tips from Johnny that I just LOVE:
1. “[Conditioning] starts at the bowl [or the shower]. When you’re shampooing and conditioning your hair, that’s where you get the integrity built into the hair.” I literally just said this to my roommate: you want to condition your hair during your wash/dry routine so the moisture really penetrates the hair shaft, as opposed to only relying on applying oils and moisturizers once your hair has been styled.
2. “Sleep on satin pillow cases. The hair is an appendage of the skin. The same things you need to do to keep your skin healthy you need to do to keep your hair healthy. Sleep on a satin pillow case to keep hydration in the skin and the hair.” And amen!
