Glamazons,
One thing I love about New York City is that you are only a subway ride away from some pretty incredible experiences, whether a Broadway play, a ballet or a museum exhibit. I headed to Brooklyn for the latter on Saturday: the Killer Heels exhibit at Brooklyn Museum (200 Eastern Parkway). You know it had to be good for me to go below 14th street on the weekend! But then again, how could a day looking at gorgeous shoes spanning four centuries be anything less than glamazing?
Curated by Brooklyn Museum’s Lisa Small and sponsored by Nordstrom and W Magazine, the “Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe” exhibit includes 160 pairs of shoes spanning four centuries as well as six short films by artists including Nick Knight, Steven Klein and Zach Gold. For anyone who loves shoes and history (two of my favorite things!), the exhibit is an absolute must-see.
You can check out the Killer Heels exhibit from now until February 15, 2014. It’s open Wednesday through Sunday 11AM-6PM (with extended hours on Thursday until 10PM).
Here’s a sneak peek at some of the beautiful shoes on display:
Fendi heels, 2003
Georgina Goodman “Lena The Love shoe,” Summer 2011
Manchu Womans shoes, Qing Dynasty Chinese, 19th Century
Zaha Hadid x United Nude ‘Nova’ shoe wedge
Christian Dior, Fall 2013
Geta wood thong sandals, Japanese, first half of 20th century
Miu Miu ‘Cammeo’ Baroque Leather Wedge, Fall 2006
Winde Rienstra Bamboo heels, 2012
Alexander McQueen lace-up peeptoe boots, Spring/Summer 2013
Christian Louboutin Fetish Ballerines, 2007
A shoe lover’s dream!
I recommend going early so you can take your time making your way through the exhibit. You need adequate time to survey the shoes and watch the short films.
My friend, Crystal of Crystal Says, and I came pretty late on Saturday so we had to rush through and only got to see half of it! Also, the exhibit is pretty dimly lit and can get crowded so the more time you have to spend there, the better. We plan to go back and spend more time at the exhibit next weekend.
For more info on the exhibit, go HERE. Will you make the trip to Brooklyn to see Killer Heels, Glamazons?
Kisses,
Glamazon Jessica
I live in Chicago, and unfortunately won’t be able to attend the exhibit, but the heels featured are definitely killer! I know I would break an ankle, or worse, a leg, trying to walk steady in a pair of those LOL! By the way, I like your handbag; it’s so Olivia Pope-ish. :)
