I don’t know if it’s the fact that I walk around everywhere in New York but I have such a low tolerance for painful shoes these days! And even when I want to stunt in stilettos like these or these, I make sure to carry my flats in my bag. I knew my obsession with heels had turned a new leaf when I bought these flats from Zara (pictured above) instead of these gorgeous sandals. Don’t get me wrong: I’ll go back for the sandals but I knew I’d get more wear out of those flats, and I was right.
Luckily, this summer, comfy shoes are in style (for the first time ever?). You can actually spare your feet and not look like somebody’s grandma. And I have all of the proof.
In fact, a reader and good friend of mine asked for comfortable shoes that are actually cute, and I’m happy that there are a ton of styles this summer that fit the bill. Check out my faves below:
Dressy Flats
Dressy flats are the jam because they look like pumps (thanks to the pointy toe and occasional ankle strap) but since they don’t come with a heel, they’re super comfortable. They compliment even the fanciest dresses perfectly.
Flatforms
Flatforms have been a hit since they first appeared on the runway during the Spring 2011 season at Marc Jacobs and Prada. Now, cool metallic, studded and even snakeskin versions are popping up at mass retailers. They’re trendy, comfortable and look amazing with everything from culottes to shorts.
Flat Wedges
Sky-high wedges (yes, even Lady Gaga‘s heel-less version) are so last season! This summer is all about wedges that give an incline at a much lower height. The result? Elongated legs without the pain and with all the support.
Chunky Heels
If you must wear heels, do your feet a favor and opt for the chunky kind. Thick heels provide more support and if they come with a platform, they take undue strain off your arch. A win-win!

I hope they come to Canada soon because I absolutely love them…I’m not very good at buying shoes online since I always need to try them first…I can’t wait to have a few pairs in different colors. Did I say that I love them??
