Glamazon Guide: How To Layer Like a Street Style Star

Glamazons,

This has to be the coldest winter in years. We’re talking temps below freezing! I’ve found one of the best ways to deal with these bitterly cold days is to dress in layers.  That way, you can remove layers when you walk into a heated room and add them on when you’re ready to step outside.

Here are six must haves to achieve a multidimensional look worthy of a street style star:

1. A Button-Down Shirt

Like Christine Centenera, you can start your layered look with a chambray or even plaid button-down shirt. It’s the perfect layering piece because you can see the collar if you wear it underneath a sweater.

The lightweight shirts are comfy under heavier layers and they can stand alone should you need to remove your top layer once indoors.

2. Cozy Sweater or Sweatshirt

Next, you can add a crewneck sweater or sweatshirt to your look. Extra points if you let the collar of your button-down shirt peek out at the top like Shiona Turini.

You can even rock a thin long sleeve sweater underneath a loose graphic short sleeve tee. The options are endless. All that matters is that it keeps you warm!

3. Bright Winter Coat

On an excessively cold day, an oversized coat will act as your final (and much-needed!) layer of clothing. Bright coats are on trend right now (take a cue from Julia Sarr-Jamois!) so add a royal blue, yellow or even hot pink coat to take your look to the next level.

4. A Scarf

No matter the outfit, you can always add a chunky scarf to your look a la June Ambrose. For some pizazz, add a printed or bold color scarf to the mix. Have fun with it!

5. Vest

Whether fur or wool, the vest is a must-have to achieve a cute layered look. It keeps your chest warm while allowing you to show off the sleeves of a cool jacket, sweater or blouse. It’s also a great opportunity to mix materials like a knit sweater under a wool vest, or a leather jacket under a fur vest like Olivia Palermo.

6. A Cardigan

A cardigan is the ideal layering piece because you can throw it on top of any outfit like the Man Repeller for an added layer of warmth. Also, since it hangs open, you can still show off what you’re wearing underneath. From cardigans in basic colors to cool printed pieces, there are so many options to choose from.

Glamazons, will you try the layered look this winter?

Fashionably yours,

Glamazon Jamiese
