#LFW Backstage Beauty: Vivienne Westwood Red Label — Makeup by MAC, Hair by Toni&Guy

Glamazons,

There are a few shows during Fashion Week that are so creative they blow our minds: The Blonds and Thom Browne, for example. The latest beauty look to send us into a makeup and hair-obsessed spiral? Vivienne Westwood Red Label!

The models emerged after Lily Cole‘s dance performance opened the show with white-painted faces and chaotic, wild and free waves.

Here are the deets on the look:

MAKEUP

Inspiration:

The theme for most Vivienne Westwood Red Label shows is climate change and the Spring 2014 show, titled “Red Shoes,” spoke specifically to the refugees trying to flee with nowhere to run due to the shift in the atmosphere. The hair, makeup and clothing reflected this theme, with models dressed to look “like an animal trapped in the headlights, trying to flee and trapped.”

Key makeup artist, Val Garland, said: “This is not a fashion show! This is a ‘happening!’ The Westwood theatre of chaos.” And the hair and makeup was chaotic, indeed.

Get The Look:

FACE

-Apply MAC Pro Pure White Acrylic Paint with a MAC Pro Performance sponge liberally but randomly over the face leaving unconventional areas clear.

-Apply MAC Pro Pure White Pigment with a powder puff over skin to set.

-Add a flash of MAC Pro Basic Red Acrylic Paint to a feature in a small, minimal way to accent the overall look.

EYES

-Draw with MAC Pro Black Black Acrylic Paint across the brow with either 252 larger shade or 242 shader brush and continue both across and under the eyelid in a linear direction, giving the impression of stretching the eye through the inky, abstract strokes of black.

-Apply MAC Pro White Full Coverage with a disposable wand through the lashes and followed with MAC Pro Pure White Pigment to intensify and create a strong contrast against black black acrylic paint.

LIPS

-Sponge MAC Pro Black Black Acrylic Paint over the lip area and then layer with MAC Pro Pure White Acrylic Paint to soften and break up the black to finish.

-To complete the look, add a final flash of MAC Pro Basic Red Acrylic Paint to a feature in a small, minimal way for juxtaposition against the black and white theatre of the look.

HAIR

Inspiration:

Mark Hampton, Global Ambassador for Toni&Guy Hair Meet Wardrobe, said the look was “wild and animal-like” inspired by a “ferocious forest creature.” So the hair had “tons of volume” and was “pinned up abstractly” to connote chaos.

Get The Look:

-Apply Prep Toni&Guy Heat Protection Mist to dry hair, to protect from styling.
-Divide the hair into sections and create waves using Toni&Guy Hair Meet Wardrobe Ceramic Curved Plate Straightener.
-Next, brush out the waves with a soft bristle brush and apply Toni&Guy Glamour Volume Plumping Whip to the roots and lengths of the hair to create imposing volume and add ferocious texture.
-Finally pin the top sections up at random and complete with Toni&Guy Glamour Firm Hold Hairspray to bring out your feral side.

Just in time for Halloween, right?

If only I had half of Vivienne Westwood‘s limitless imagination…
