You know Fashion Week is off to a great start when you see Karl Lagerfeld, Anna Wintour and model of the moment, Coco Rocha, in one setting! I’m talking about the Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s Herald Square event which I had the privilege of attending Tuesday evening.
And yes, I trekked through the rain to get there. Did I mention it was Karl Lagerfeld’s event? I’ve been his stan for years and nearly fainted when I saw him at the Met Gala in 2010. This time, I managed to keep oxygen flowing to my brain in Karl’s presence and I think that’s primarily because he was so down-to-earth.
Karl literally danced and laughed and smiled like he isn’t one of the best designers of our generation. How charming! The same can’t be said for Queen Anna though a smiling Anna would have disturbed and confused me to no end so maybe life is better when Anna is frowning.
And matching her scowl was Coco Rocha who is the chosen one spokesperson for the Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s collection and posed beside Kaiser Karl as part of her modeling duties.
It was pretty surreal to see these fashion superstars at work! After watching their presentation and dancing to tunes from the in-store DJ, I did one of my fave things: shopping.
I tried on a couple of the super fun Karl Lagerfeld t-shirts and decided on this one which I just loved with my kinky-curly afro weave I got for Fashion Week as an ode to pregnant Beyonce:
But the dresses just didn’t have the spark and pizzazz that would appeal to me as a feisty young woman who likes to take risks with her style. A colorblocked piece I loved just didn’t fit me well enough for me to be head over heels in love.
But I did think the tweed tweed coats and chiffon dresses were incredibly well-constructed considering the $50-170 price tag.
And I live for this leather jacket!
For a more mature woman with a refined fashion point-of-view, this collection is to-die-for. For me, it was the Karl t-shirts (and sightings!) and that leather that got my attention.
