Glamazon Guide: How To Beat The Dry Winter Skin Blues!

Brrr, Glamazons! Is it just me or are we having quite the strange winter? One day it’s freezing outside and the next it feels like spring! Despite these awkward weather patterns we’re experiencing there’s one thing that we constantly have to keep in mind during these cooler months: how we take care of our skin. Here are some of our go-to tips to help you keep your skin looking fab this winter:

1. Moisturize…more

I’m sure you feel like the one thing that people always talk about is how important it is to moisturize your skin but that’s because it’s really important! Your skin needs as much moisture as possible during the winter. A good ingredient to look for in your moisturizer is hyaluronic acid, which is a molecule that pulls in water to the skin. The good part is that it doesn’t leave skin greasy.

2. Exfoliate

Umm hmm (Phaedra Parks voice). You read that right. Dead layers of skin definitely need to be removed and exfoliation is key for this. Use either a scrub cleanser or you can make your own facial scrub.

The ingredients are:

  • 1 cup of dry lavender flowers
  • ½ cup of powdered milk
  • 2 tsp. of corn mill

Dampen skin and then massage the mix into your skin. Rinse with warm water and you’re good to go! Always moisturize after you exfoliate. It helps keep your freshly scrubbed skin soft.

Don’t overdo it though. Limit exfoliating your skin to at least once a week until you know how your skin will react. After that you can exfoliate up to three times a week but only if needed!

3. Drink that water.

It’s a known fact that the more water you put into your body, the more supple, hydrated and healthy your skin will be. Get those 8 glasses a day in and reap the results.

4. Don’t ditch your sunscreen

It’s as easy to get sun damage in the winter as it is in the summer! Just because it’s snowing outside or overcast, it doesn’t mean you should ditch wearing sunblock. Snow reflects the sun’s rays and exposed skin could be affected. Also, snow and strong winds can wear away your sunscreen so go for a product that’s at least SPF 30 for daily use and up to 50 if you’re going to be outdoors. Apply it liberally to exposed skin.

5. Don’t forget your lips

There’s nothing worse than walking around with dry, cracked lips. Not only is it painful, but it’s also unattractive. Always keep your lips moisturized! I like to use thicker products like Chapstick, Carmex and Blistex products during the winter. While these brands are useful for removing cold sores, blisters and etc.—I even use them when my lips are fine.
