I have an unhealthy obsession with fall footwear, especially boots! I remember the first time I ever rocked a pair of leather over-the-knee boots. I was an 8-year-old Glamazon in the making, and I wore them every. single. day. You couldn’t tell me anything – despite the fact that I lived in Florida and was on the verge of a heat stroke. #BeautyIsPain
Now that I’ve gotten older, my desire to want to constantly live in a pair of boots is at an all time high. Between the different styles, heights and textures, they are really ideal for any occasion this season and take my wardrobe into cooler temps so seamlessly. I have yet to meet a pair that I didn’t absolutely love! But because the options are so vast, it can be a daunting task trying to figure out how to rock each style.
Don’t worry, lovelies! Check below for a few tips for wearing boots this fall:
1. Add Length To Ankle Boots With A Pair of Skinny Jeans or Leggings

If thigh-high or calf boots aren’t really your thing and you want a more casual option, ankle boots are the next best choice. Opt for a pair of skinny denim jeans or leggings to elongate your frame and give a more slimming effect.
2. Proportions Matter.
Color Me Courtney gave 70s style a modern upgrade by pairing a patchwork skirt with gray over-the-knee boots. I love how the crisp white blouse keeps the look streamlined and polished.
Take it from me: choosing a boot style that works well with your height is so important. If you’re shorter, stick to boots that cut closer to your skin as looser boots tend to widen your legs and make you look stumpy. If you are pairing over-the-knee and thigh-high boots with summer dresses and skirts, make sure you allow for a few inches between the hem of the skirt and the top of the boot so you don’t completely swallow your small frame.
3. Leave Room In Your Tall Boots.
Fashion Lush‘s Erica layered a fringe sweater over a little black dress paired with over-the knee boots for a bold yet chic look.
To make sure your boots fit comfortably, check to see if your skin bulges out from the top. If it does, that’s a sign that they are probably too tight which is an absolute no-no. To be safe, always select a pair that leaves at least one inch between your skin and the boot.
4. Experiment With Different Colors.
It’s a well-known fact that incorporating quirky shades spices up your fall look in a matter of seconds. Think about the colors you currently have in your wardrobe and find a versatile boot selection that complements your favorite pieces well. You’ll have fun coordinating the hues and will make such a statement in the process!
