Glamazons,
Is there a support group for people who are addicted to going blonde? A place where you can talk about your growing obsession, how it started simply enough with highlights on extensions and spiraled out of control to include all-over color plus lowlights and highlights that just keep getting brighter. *face palm* I first colored my hair in March and already, I’m going blonder. Like, who am I?!
Though I loved my bronze-y hue, I wanted something lighter for summer and fortunately, Cutler Salon reached out with the opportunity for a blonde color treatment by Redken expert colorist Chiala Marvici. Of course, I said yes!

I headed down to Cutler salon in Soho and showed Chiala my hair color inspiration, blogger René Daniella (Follow her at @OwnbyFemme).

Chiala used the pic of René as inspiration but she wanted to go a bit lighter (while keeping my darker roots). She was so sweet and super communicative. And I was feeling a bit adventurous so I obliged:
Here’s my color right before the #RedkenBlonde transformation:

I loved that the color was lighter but it looked cool instead of bright and brash. It also complimented my skin color beautifully (and to think I used to believe you couldn’t go blonde with my shade of brown skin!).
Here are some before and after pics of my new color:
Love it! And I can’t even begin to tell you the compliments I’ve received — even my grandma noticed it as soon as I walked into her room!
As a newbie to the hair color game, I realized with my last color job that it’s imperative that you not only keep your hair moisturized, but you choose products that help maintain your color so it doesn’t quickly dull or fade.
Hair color goals by way of a Redken model. No seriously, how gorgeous and bright is her hair color!
With the hope that my blonde is beautiful for as long as possible, I gave Redken Blonde Idol products a test run. What I immediately liked about them is that they promise no brassiness (which I HATE) and they boasts the Kera-Bright System which balances and brightens your blonde to keep the color looking gorgeous and fresh.
Now, I have to admit at first I was like: these products are great for blondes and all but how will they work on natural hair? I was pleased to learn the shampoo is sulfate-free (a must for naturals!) which will help your hair retain moisture. Naturals will also love the Blonde Idol BBB Spray (a leave-in multi-benefit conditioning spray) and the super-nourishing Blonde Idol Mask. Moisture lock FTW!
The greatest asset of the Redken Blonde Idol product line in my humble opinion is the customization process. There are a million ways to go blonde from platinum blonde to honey blonde color. Blonde Idol takes each and every blonde shade into account with their customized conditioners.
For blondes with warm tones (Rose Gold, Light to Dark Golden, Sun-Kissed, Strawberry Blonde, Caramel, Rich Toffee, or Honey), they offer Blonde Idol Custom Tone Conditioner Gold which refines warm tones. Blondes with cooler tones (Platinum, Lavender, Violet Pastel, Icy, Beige, Ash) should use Blonde Idol Custom Tone Conditioner Violet which preserves cool, blonde hair and neutralizes brassiness.
