From Her Love For the NY Knicks to Her Girl Crush on Nicki Minaj: 5 NEW Reasons To Love Anna Wintour

It’s hard not to love fashion powerhouse Anna Wintour but to be sure, the woman has her critics. Many claim that she isn’t down-to-earth, that she’s out-of-touch with contemporary fashion and pop culture and that, well, she’s evil—especially to her fellow staffers. Here are five recent developments in Anna-world that prove them all wrong:

1) She actually wears jeans!

While it may not happen very often, she has been spotted in jeans! Any top fashion editor that can ditch their couture for the casual Americana staple has to have a down-to-earth bone in their body, right?

2) She does pays attention to pop culture!

Within the past two months, she’s chosen pop princess Rihanna and megastar Lady Gaga to grace the coveted cover of Vogue Magazine.  She also personally invited everyone’s favorite Barbie, Nicki Minaj to perform at the Runway to Green event.

3) She may or may not be a New York Knicks fan!

Yes, Queen Anna is often spotted courtside at the New York Knicks games! Anna has even befriended the fashion-loving Amare Stoudemire and featured him in the latest issue of Vogue.

4) She plays nice with other editors.

The September Issue movie hinted at a slight tension between Anna and Vogue Creative Director Grace Coddington with Anna being painted as the villain, especially with her comment about the photographer’s stomach being airbrushed. It turns out that was just drama for the big screen, though. Anna dedicated her entire April 2011 editor’s letter to Grace, celebrating the storied Editor’s 70th birthday.

5) All of your favorite designers love her!

Bloomberg TV recently featured  Anna Wintour on their latest series Gamechangers which profiles top leaders in varying industries.  Wintour herself declined to participate but many who have worked closely with her for years were interviewed—and of course, they all love her.

Director of The September Issue RJ Cutler, Conde Nast CEO Charles Townsend, former publisher Tom Florio, Gap designer Patrick Robinson, fashion journalist Teri Agins, and designer Vera Wang (who has been friends with Anna for 30 years) all spoke positively their experiences with Ms. Wintour.

There wasn’t anything in the segment that we don’t already know about the most powerful woman in fashion but it was interesting to see her drive and determination recanted by those who know her personally.  One of my favorite parts was Vera Wang speaking about their 30 year friendship.

Have you rekindled your love of Anna Wintour recently? Are you still over her? Discuss!
