The great thing about New York Fashion Week? Memorable moments occur when you’re least expecting them. Take yesterday, for example. I was attacked by blowing wet snow and freezing wind during a decidedly un-fabulous walk into Lincoln Center.
I promise you street style photographers had no interest in photographing my wet hair, red cheeks and snow-covered boots as I scurried inside the theater. With the Nicole Miller show about to start, I was asked to fill in seats and (oops!) somehow I end up sitting behind Ashlee Simpson and Eve (second row, third from left). How’s that for glamour?
Nothing prepares you for the onslaught of explosive paparazzi camera flashes. They’re both glaring and nauseating. I was sweating and blinded in one eye while Ashlee and Eve were perfectly poised. How do celebrities do that?
Eve was a pro at handling all the fans, pushy paparazzi and frantic journalists, including myself when I asked her what she thought of the Nicole Miller show. She said: “I saw a lot of things I would love. The hats, the pants, were amazing. I love the blouses too.” “The dress I’m wearing is a girly, sexy, womanly dress but it’s easy to edge up. I like pretty/edgy. Her stuff is sophisticated but still has edge.”
Her collection totally straddled the line between girly and gritty.

Inspiration: Though Nicole Miller has made a name for herself with signature fitted ruched dresses and mermaid hem gowns, this collection marks a departure from that aesthetic in exchange for decidedly masculine separates that embody downtown cool. The muse? Girls who borrow from their boyfriend’s closets.
