Beauty is a pastime most women share, but sometimes it can be fatally dangerous if we are not safe. We are sad to report that Atasha Graham, a 34-year-old Jamaican-born housewife who lived in England, died after suffering a major allergic reaction triggered by glue from her hair extensions.
After a night out on the town with her boyfriend, Graham collapsed, stopped breathing and could not regain consciousness. She was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. Doctors surmised the hair glue or latex weave was the cause of her death after an autopsy revealed nothing was wrong with her organs and no toxins were present in her bloodstream.
Although this is the first time I’ve heard of this kind of tragedy, Home Office pathologist Doctor Michael Heath says death by hair extension occurs more than you think:
“I’ve seen cases where people using solvent to apply hair extensions has actually caused anaphylactic shock. There are about 10 to 20 deaths a year in this country, many more in America. I have seen four in the last three months.”
The reality of 10-20 deaths by hair glue or extensions a year is painfully frightening. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Graham family and hope that everyone out there continues to be safe and use best practices when it comes to what goes in and out of the body.

I think that you should have said that she died from bad reaction to hair glue or the ingredients there of and not hair extension because that is not quite true, and it's very misleading.
It could’ve been from hair clue or the extensions. I found out a few years ago that I am allergic to Carba Mix, which is basically latex. It’s a chemical mixture that’s in most rubber products. For me, it wasn’t the hair glue because I had none applied. However, I had hair sown in and the carba mix is on the threading of the hair. My scalp itched very bad, so bad that it started to hurt. When I finally took it out (about two weeks later) of my hair, my scalp was raw and red and very bumpy. It was a horrible experience! It actually wasn’t until about 3 years later when I had a patch test done for eczema that I found out that I was allergic to Carba Mix. It was then when I put it all together and did research on the hair weave.
Omg this is crazy
W.OW, I do understand as I have a latex allergy and had a bad reaction to hair glue. My thoughts & prayers go out to her family

OMGosh this is crazy!!! I've never heard of people having this severe of a reaction before.
OMG..I KNOW IT GIVES ME TERRIBLE HEADACHES WHEN I WEAR IT…MAKES MY SCALP SO SORE THAT I DEVELOPS A KNOT UNDERNEATH THE WEAVE…WE LADIES NEED 2 BE REAL CAREFUL & READ UP ON WHAT'S IN THE PRODUCTS..REMEMBER, PPL ARE OUT 2 MAKE A BUCK ON THEIR PRODUCTS NOT KNOWING THE DANGER IT CAUSES….
the same type of thing happened to Countess Vaughn from Moesha and The Parkers. She didn't die but had a severe reaction to the glue that took her hair out around the hairline.
Ooh God! Such a sad story.
So sorry to hear this, Be careful ladies;
Beauty should never be taken too serious. It can influence decisions that are not our best interest. We need to consider our choices before applying stuff that can enter into the bloodstream. If you can't eat it, you probably shouldn't apply it…
I couldn’t agree with you more! Generally it is a great rule that if it would be dangerous for you to digest the product then you should avoid putting it around your skin too. Our pores are extremely absorbent and those chemicals from topical creams, glues, and other beauty products can end up causing a number of problems. This is such a sad story – everyone, please be aware of what chemicals you are putting on your body.
thing is, ppl can have the exact same ALLERGIC REACTION to edible things.. an allergy is an allergy.
the hair it self can give u a reaction. I had a reaction from hair extensions single braids my head was on fire itching like crazy I put all kinds of oil and dr miracle braid relief and tool benadrel medication to relieve the itching . Didn't want to take it out paid $160 and it was like that for days I'm truly lucky.It's a draw of luck with the type of hair and glue . I had no glue in my hair and still wen through this.
