Since CND Shellac manicures have been around for a few months now, I’ve been kicking myself for not trying this fab new invention in nail color that last–get this–14 days! No joke: read on to see how exactly it works.
I took a visit to the Angelo David Salon in NYC to test out this beauty phenomenon that lasts at least two weeks. The base, color coat and top coat look like your typical bottle of polish, but they each contain special UV technology that makes it last super long.
Though I knew I had to wait two weeks before I could prove that the Shellac mani was officially magic in a bottle, Angelo David’s manicurist was able to show me right away that this wasn’t your regular trip to the salon. As soon as I was done with my manicure, it was completely dry. She even rubbed a cotton pad with alcohol on each nail to show they were fully hardened and ready-to-go, which is perfect because I can’t go five seconds without rummaging through my giant tote bag for something! The fast dry time is due to a mixture of the gel-like finish of the nail color and also the special CND UV lamp where you use in between each coat for about 90 seconds (instead of the traditional 10-15 minute nail dry you usually would do at the end of a session).
Shellac currently comes in 24 colors with a really nice range of neutrals to bright oranges and red to even a jet black. I chose a flattering “Iced Cappuccino” so that if it really did last two weeks, it wouldn’t clash with any of my colorful outfit choices. And I’m happy to report that from Day 1 (far left) to today (far right), you can barely tell a difference!:
Today would be day 16 of the Shellac mani. You can definitely see that my new cuticle is starting to creep in, but as far as any cracks or chips: there weren’t any! I’m pretty impressed with the product and though it costs double the amount of a regular mani (about $50 depending on where you go), it lasts two or three times longer–such a deal and worth the extra moolah.
