Glamazons,
The first-ever BET On Fashion runway/party certainly lived up to its name. BET was ON IT on the day before New York Fashion Week, no less! The exclusive soiree featured seven up-and-coming designers: Viktor Luna, Helen Castillo, Natt Taylor, St. Frimpong, Jacinta Ligon, Andrew Nowell and Tashia Senn.
I caught up with BET CEO, the gorgeous Debra Lee, and she explained how this event came together: “This year at BET Experience we decided to showcase some young African American designers and it went so well and so much fun. So we decided to do this again during fashion week and give a platform to those designers who wouldn’t be ordinarily be able to show on their own.”
Although the room was filled with fashionistas, bloggers and style experts, the main attraction of the night was absolutely the clothes. My favorite collection was by Natt Taylor, who told me that the woman who wears her clothing is “a professional, who has a really busy social life. So she needs to be fly, cute and sexy.” Sounds like my girl kinda girl.
The Atlanta-based designer also dressed Bravolebrity Africa Miranda (“The New Atlanta”) in an utterly smoldering ensemble. Natt is definitely one to watch!
Guests sipped on a various assortment of cocktails before and after the show and were treated to delicious finger food. BET really knows how to spoil us. I’m also in love with the little black purse I received as a gift. Each guest got one (or in my case two, one is for my sister *wink*) and it’s designed by Isaac Mizrahi — for the win!
Quick camera phone shot of me hanging out with Elle Varner during cocktail hour!
Going for the flirty look, singer Elle Varner wowed in a Novis dress. She was the hostess with the mostess on the red carpet working for a new BET initiative B* real, a digital magazine that centers around style.
Beautiful people were in abundance last night. I also spotted the handsome Emil Wilbekin, comedienne Amanda Seales and a glowing Lola Ogunnaike.
How cute is that baby bump?
The warm weather last night created the perfect atmosphere for a fun-filled night celebrating new talent. The design and décor for the ESPACE location was perfect and I can’t wait to attend next year’s event.
#NYFW has officially kicked off! I am soooo excited! Stay tuned to Glamazons Blog for more coverage throughout the week — and find it all here: http://bit.ly/glamnyfw
