Glamazons,
You know how much I love theater productions from Chicago to Motown the Musical! But some of the best musicals are actually off Broadway. There’s so much talent and if you take the time to look for it, sometimes you can find it in your own backyard!
That was my experience when I heard about A Portrait of Ray presented by Vanguard Theater Company. The upcoming show will feature the supremely talented Dwayne Clark, a Broadway star featured in The Color Purple, Spiderman, In the Heights and Rent. And it runs for two nights over Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend right in South Orange, New Jersey. For my Glamazons in the Jersey City/Hoboken area (or even in NYC), South Orange is not far at all. From NYC, it’s about a twenty minute train ride.
Dwayne Clark embodies Ray Charles so convincingly it’ll give you chills. And I have the proof. Watch this:
I mean, amazing! The music will be just as incredible. An orchestra, including famed saxophonist Don Braden, will perform some of Ray Charles‘ greatest hits. It’s definitely not to be missed!
The shows are at January 16th at 7pm and January 17th at 3pm at South Orange Middle School, 70 Ridgewood Road, South Orange, NJ. For more info, visit VanguardTheater.org.
Hope to see you there!
Kisses,
Glamazon Jessica
