That Time I Mixed Prints with My Nail Art

Glamazons,

When you find a salon that can do nail art for a decent price, you’ve hit the jackpot. I am obsessed with nail art, and after stumbling through a few trials myself (not showing you guys any pictures from those), I decided to leave it to professional. But finding a salon that can deliver great designs for an affordable price was another struggle in itself. Then, a birdie told me about Very Polished Lounge and Nail Spa in Brooklyn (1082 Fulton Street).

I made the trek from Harlem (which according to New Yorkers is like crossing the Atlantic ocean) and it was well worth it. When I walked into the posh salon, I was greeted with a mimosa as soon as I sat down on the plush couch. It was the perfect refresher after my journey!

I then met the founder Angie Aguirre, who has been doing nails since she was 13 and is a true Brooklynite.

Angie is a whiz at nail art (evidenced by their Instagram page) so I knew I wanted to get the works. We decided on polka dots and leopard print, inspired by this nail art from their Instagram:

I was amazed at how fast she created the look. She used Zoya Nail Polish in red and khaki as the base:

Then, she used dotters to create polka dots:

To create the leopard print, Angie took black polish and drew lines around the red polka dots to mimic leopard spots. Finally, she used white polish to draw stripes on my red nail.

Check out the finished look below:

Isn’t it lovely? Polka dots always put me in a Spring mood and I just love stripes and leopard!

The best part of the experience is that Angie cares about the health of her client’s nails. She uses a strengthener to protect and nourish the nails and doesn’t perform services that could cause damage. She uses homemade, all natural scrubs on clients’ hands to exfoliate their skin (her brown sugar scrub left mine feeling softer than ever!). And she also offers a Peppermint Lime Soak made of Himalayan Dead Sea salt, peppermint oil and lime, a Margarita Manicure where the tequila acts as a natural way of loosening dead skin and more. Love!

Angie cares about your nail experience after you leave her salon too. She used a product called “Chip Skip” to ensure that my mani would last longer. Four days later, not a chip in sight. And her polishes are all toxin-free.

The decor of the salon adds to the all natural, earthy feel. Their 900-square-foot garden will be transformed into an exotic outdoor treatment space soon. Inside, the plush couches, vibrant artwork and striped walls felt luxe and sophisticated, but also warm and inviting:

I had such a great experience there! But I was most impressed by the prices. They offer gel manicures and Minx manicures for a reasonable $45 ($3 for each design after one for Minx); Caviar and velvet for $40; and even bath ice cream mani and pedis for kids at $10 and $15, respectively.

The spa additionally offers waxing from brows to brazilians. Click here for more pricing.

What do you think of the salon, Glamazons? Will you check it out? If you go, tell her Glamazon Jessica sent you! Info below.
