10 Minutes With: Real Housewives of New York City’s Spa Guru, Cindy Barshop

Fabulous is as fabulous does, and Cindy Barshop is fabulous. Not only is she the mother of two adorable twin daughters and the newest cast member to join season 4 of the Real Housewives of New York, but she is also the owner of the luxurious and popular Completely Bare spa chain.

We chatted with the new reality star (above with the RHONY cast), Mom and hair removal expert for advice on going hairless for Spring. Whether you live in the spa or are a hair removal rookie, you’ll appreciate this beauty advice during your next spa visit.

Glamazon Margo: What inspired you to start Completely Bare spas?

Cindy Barshop: I had a bikini problem; I wanted to go to a place that I felt comfortable and that the technicians really knew what they were doing and I was unable to find one that I felt confident going to. I am a huge believer that change results in opportunity so I embraced doing something that would benefit both me and women who were experiencing the same frustration as myself.

GM: You’re known for providing cutting edge treatments at your spas, how do you stay ahead of the competition?

CB: We provide a greater quality of service by specialists that are all licensed technicians and certified on the completely bare method, which is completely safe, completely effective, completely proven.

GM: How are you able to remain so successful despite being a mother, reality TV star and a business woman?

CB: Thank you, I really appreciate that! I have my priorities in order;  my children always come first.  Is it hard to leave for work some days when I just want to play with them? Yes, but than I remind myself that all my hard work is to provide them with the best life possible.  I also have a great support staff.

GM: Ok, let’s talk hair removal! What advice do you have hair removal first-timers?

CB: Make sure that you do your research and find a place that specializes in hair removal.  When booking your appointment, let the spa coordinator know if you are taking any medications that may be contra indications or if you have had any sun exposure recently so they can make sure you receive the safest treatment available.  If you are very nervous, schedule a test patch and you will be able to see exactly what the treatment will feel like.

GM: Is hair removal always painful?

CB: It really all depends on the person.  I have come out with the completely bare method, our specialists utilize the newest machines and manipulate the settings to decrease the amount of pain. I just came out with ‘Not Feelin’ It’, which is a numbing spray that definitely makes hair removal hurt less by cooling and numbing the area prior to a wax. We also use a special wax, the completely bare ouchless wax, that works well on sensitive skin.

GM: What is one of the biggest mistakes people make when deciding to do any type of hair removal procedure?

CB: They are not cautious of contra indications, let your specialist know if you are taking any medications to be safe.  When it comes to laser appointments, it is important to stay on schedule which means booking appointments 4-6 weeks apart.

GM: I recently wrote an article about “guybrows” and how the number of men grooming their brows has increased drastically. Have you experienced an increase in male clientele? Are men getting any other procedures done other than brows?

CB: Yes, we have a large male clientele that comes in to get their back, chest and/or their bikini wax or lasered.

CM: I love to get my eyebrows threaded and the specialist said an area on my inner brow was thinning, do you have any tips on how to get hair to grow back from excessive waxing, threading or tweezing?

CB: There are topical medications you can take or if you have a special event, completely bare does the ‘Barshop Brow’ which utilizes human hair and looks incredibly natural.

GM: Are there any do-it-yourself products that clients can use between visits that you recommend?

CB: For in between waxing visits, I recommend Don’t Grow There,  ahair inhibitor and moisturizer that contains the CB tri-complex, which is our proprietary blend that slows hair growth, decreases hair density, extends the length between visits and minimizes in-grown hairs.

Thanks my awesomely talented luv. These tips are awesome too! I learned a lot just from the interview. Gonna try a couple of the items she suggested, especially for my thinning brows (smh… I'm a thread/wax-a-holic)!
