Glamazons,
As a working girl, I’m constantly trying to figure out ways to effortlessly express my style while staying in line with my office’s dress code. Believe me when I tell you: dressing for the office is not as easy as dressing for a night on the town with your girls! Adding your own flair to your work attire can be challenging but experience has granted me a few tips on how to be boardroom-friendly and fashion-forward.
Check out my advice below as well as some glamspiration from a few of my fave style bloggers. Read on:
1. Opt for a Bold Statement
The best way to spruce up your office attire is to incorporate a statement piece into your look. Whether you choose a colorful blazer, handbag, or a signature piece of jewelry, the key is to limit yourself to one statement piece and to keep the rest of your look toned down and conservative. You want to have fun without going overboard.
A striped blazer offsets an all-black ensemble as showcased by Classy Cubicle.

2. Mix and Match
Show off your personal style by playing around with different prints, shapes and silhouettes. Take a walk on the daring side and pair an asymmetrical wrap skirt with a straight-cut blazer.
If your office is more casual (or if it’s Casual Friday!), go for a floral print skirt with a striped shirt. However, if you choose to experiment with different prints and cuts, keep the accessories simple and sophisticated.
Girls Off Fifth paired a black and white print midi skirt with a polka dot blouse. Simple black pumps could work for this look during the day and at night, throw on these red sandals for afterwork drinks with co-workers.

3. Invest in Chic Accessories (Footwear and Handbags!)
Accessories say so much about you. Invest in a great tote bag that screams sophistication and power. Footwear is equally important: you want to look comfortable and confident when strutting in the boardroom for a meeting, and stilettos you can’t walk in don’t fit the bill. Invest in a pair of classic power pumps at a reasonable height. And for a more modern look, try a sandal with a thicker heel. Not only will the thick heel make walking comfortable, it will elongate your frame for a sophisticated, streamlined look.
Here are a few selects:
4. Keep Makeup Polished
If your office environment is more reserved, bright eyeshadow and lipstick are an absolute ‘No.’ Opt for makeup tones that are more understated, but toned down doesn’t have to be boring! You can use subtle approaches to highlight the best features of your face. For instance, try a rosy blush to accentuate your cheekbones or a white liner to draw attention to your eyes.
Glamazon Jessica is all about the rosy blush.

5. Choose Flattering Silhouettes
The right dress, suit and skirt is all in the silhouette! Certain silhouettes are all business (shift dresses, pencil skirts), while others not so much (bodycon dresses scream ‘party’ and skater skirts may be too whimsical to be taken seriously). Opt for streamlined silhouettes that skim rather than cling to your curves. Think Olivia Pope and Jessica from “Suits”; they nail it!
Kela Walker‘s red dress and blazer create the perfect streamlined look.
