How I Nailed My Halloween Costume for $30

Halloween Costume

Glamazons, It’s probably no secret that Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, just because I love playing dress up. One thing I’m not fond of is paying a ton of money for costumes, so I tend to gravitate toward ideas that will let me make the best use of clothes I already have — basically DIY Halloween Costumes. Because who has the money to waste on an outfit you’ll never wear again past October 31? Last year, I used an outfit in my closet to transform into North West after ballet class. I wore a tulle skirt with a simple black tee, layered a black leather jacket on top, and finished my look with tights and ballet slipper flats. It’s an idea I actually got from Glamazon Briea’s post about Halloween last year.

This year, I shopped my closet for two fun DIY Halloween costumes. First, I dressed up as Whitley from “A Different World” with my sister giving Freddie realness. I teamed a black turtleneck with a plaid skirt, threw on a pearl necklace, grabbed my beloved Chanel tote (more on this later!) and a pair of black pumps. The only out-of-the-norm thing I purchased was a pearl waist belt, and I’m determined to re-use it as a necklace, lol. My sister found her “Hillman College” sweatshirt on Etsy, and pulled the rest of her outfit together from her existing wardrobe. I think we nailed it, and the best part is we didn’t spend a ton in the process.

The second idea was just as easy to pull together. My co-workers and I decided to dress up as different Solange’s for an epic group costume, and I chose wedding Solange since I knew I had the perfect dress for it. I pulled my white cape dress out of the closet, and threw on some gold cuff bracelets on each wrist. The rest of the look was all beauty: a picked-out Afro, smoky eye and red lip. I remember literally gasping when I first saw pictures from Solange’s wedding, she looked so beautiful and regal. I was really honored to recreate that moment, and I hope I did it justice!
