You’ll Love the Retro Bobs and Colorful Eyeshadow at Jeremy Scott #NYFW
Is it surprising that I’m obsessed with Jeremy Scott‘s runway shows? Not only are they always a lot of fun, but he pushes the envelope to create innovative designs time and time again. His Spring 2017 collection stayed true to form, delivering ’80s New York glitz by way of sparkling mini dresses, playful accessories and erotic graphic prints.
Teyonah Parris and Jussie Smollet sat front row as models, including Chanel Iman and Hailey Baldwin, walked the runway sporting asymmetric bobs and pieces that embodied the avant-garde edge of the decade.
Here are the deets for Jeremy Scott’s Spring 2017 collection:
Inspiration: Inspired by early ’80s New York folklore, Jeremy Scott wanted to pay homage to the eclectic city aesthetic with a collection that merged retro and futuristic elements. “I wanted to capture this mood, this mix of punk and S&M, with kind of a disco glamour, but sci-fi at the same time. These fun party scenes and these extravagant characters going around on the Lower East Side, and Times Square being seedy and having X-rated theaters.”
Makeup artist Kabuki for MAC Cosmetics went for an equally lively approach, painting models’ faces with vibrant teal, lavender and orange smokey eyes and matching mascara. “I wanted to capture some of the edgy, new wave vibe of this collection.”
Lead hairstylist Eugene Souleiman blended the styles of ’60s and ’80s to create uneven bobs. “It’s like a ’80s-inspired version of the ’60s…in the ’60s, it would have been a bob. But this doesn’t feel like a bob, it just feels like something that’s quite twisted, and that for me is really where the ’80s feel comes.” Miss Pop mirrored the collection’s prints with colorful nail art using OPI products. “There are bags that are circular, skirts that are circular, and belts that are circular, so we wanted to bring that totally ’80s geometric prints to the nails.”
Key Pieces: Monogrammed “New York” sweatshirts, dog collar necklaces, graphic print dresses, leather mini skirts, statement bodycons, a toothpaste handbag, flying saucer skirts, black leather halter dress, sequin jumpsuit, bralettes, zipped crop tops, statement monokinis, laser-cut detailing and colorblock trench coats.
Who I Could See Wearing This Collection: Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Zendaya and Rita Ora
