What To Wear For Every Type Of Interview

Glamazons,

So you’ve just landed an interview at the company of your dreams, huh? Having a great cover letter and resume can only get you so far. Now you have to find a way to make a stellar first impression. That’s where your attire comes in.

If you’re anything like me, dressing for an interview gives a major case of anxiety. What you wear is the first thing your interviewer will notice before you even say a word. You want to look professional and confident but you don’t want to look overdressed.

If you’re stumped on what to wear for your job interview, check out some useful tips below:

1. Comfort is key. When you’re uncomfortable, it will be written all over your face. The last thing you want during an interview is to be fussing with your clothes. If you’re wearing pants that are too tight or heels that you can’t walk in, it can leave a bad first impression. The trick is to find polished pieces that you will feel at ease in.

2. Be mindful of the company’s aesthetic. While a tailored suit works for the corporate world, in a more relaxed environment it’s too uptight. Dressing for the job you want and not the job you have is probably the best advice I’ve ever received. It will help the interviewer see that you understand the company and you want to be taken seriously.

3. Keep your look natural. When it comes to makeup, subtlety is your best bet. Go for a natural look, leaving the bright eyeshadow and dramatic makeup for happy hour. You can incorporate printed accessories or statement jewelry to give the interviewer a glimpse into your personal style.

Here are a few outfit ideas to guide your next interview look:

Classic Suit

When it comes to a killer interview outfit, you can’t go wrong with a classic, tailored suit. Nothing says you’re the perfect person for the job like polished pieces. Try adding a twist by throwing a suede coat over your look or pairing it with chic colorblock heels to stand out in the boardroom.

Sleeveless Blazer

A full suit can feel stuffy sometimes especially if you’re interviewing for a company with a laid-back office environment. Modernize the traditional look with a sleeveless blazer layered over a statement pencil skirt. Finish it off with black pumps and neutral makeup to keep things chic.

Wide-Legged Trousers

Textured separates go a long way! A less conservative option but still very office-appropriate, this outfit lends a clean look for interviews in fields that aren’t so corporate. Pair your wide-legged trousers with a knit oversized cardigan and matching sweater. Stick to minimal jewels and add excitement with block heels.

Printed Dress

Showing off your personality is a major plus for landing a job in more creative industries like fashion or the arts. A flowy printed dress adds a pop of color without going overboard. Incorporate 70s-esque loafers and a caped blazer to make the ensemble feel classic yet trendy.

What’s your go-to interview ensemble? What rules do you follow when dressing for interviews, Glamazons? I’d love to hear from you in the comments!

Keeping It Fashionable,
