Would You Wear…Creepers Like Rihanna and Beyonce?

Glamazons,

There are a few trends that I just can’t seem to accept, no matter how many times they pop up on the runway. Creepers are definitely one of them. And although they are having a moment, I’m still scratching my head trying to figure it out.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m all about comfort but I can’t help but get early 90s grunge vibes from the look. It wasn’t until I recently tried on a pair that I actually thought they were wearable. And even still, I don’t know if I’d rock them every day.

Skepticism aside, the look doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. They first originated as the “brothel-creeper” crepe-soled boots soldiers wore for added protection during World War II, and went on to become the defining symbol for 50s British pop punk culture. Recently, the trend enjoyed a colorful revival at the Prada Spring/Summer 2011 show with other major fashion brands like Chanel and Alexander Wang taking notice a few years later.

And now the look is ubiquitous on the street style circuit, thanks in part to Rihanna‘s popular Puma collection. The first classic black and white style sold out in hours, and three new colorways launched today (shop the few sizes still in stock here).

Beyonce tried the look on for size when she posed in a pair of leather pants and a basic white tee with matching studded creepers.

I have to admit: I love that the shoes make such a huge statement all by themselves. They add a quirky element to any look. And you can keep the rest of your outfit really understated. Plus, they add height without sacrificing comfort. Still, I’m on the fence.

What do you think of creepers, Glamazons? Would you rock them? Tell me your thoughts in the comments below!

I hate creepers too but I’m not gonna lie – the fact that Rihanna has a pair makes me want to try them!!

She really makes everything cool. I broke down and bought a pair but still figuring out how to style them. And how to walk in them to be honest. LOL!
