Here’s How To Get Away With Pairing Sneakers and Skirts
Don’t judge me but I’ve never been much of a sneaker girl. When I was in high school, you wouldn’t catch me dead wearing anything other than heels (and the occasional stylish flat). But thanks to a job that requires me to stand on my feet, I’ve found myself swapping out stilettos for *gasp* comfy kicks. And color me surprised that the one shoe I hated is now my go-to style.
Sneakers are versatile and come in chic options from high tops to slip-ons. I love being able to express my personality so I opt for pairs with fun prints or graphics (yes, they exist). It feels like I’m getting in on the trend in a unique way. Oh, and did I mention I pair them with skirts and dresses? You can, too!
Check out some of my fave sneakers and style tips below:
1. Pair Your Bold Sneakers With Basics.
Cobalt blue sneakers are the perfect accent for a neutral gray ensemble, as seen on Karen of Where Did U Get That.
Don’t be afraid to choose a bold hue and mix it with a neutral color palette. This is the perfect way to keep the attention on your shoes and compliment your fall layers.
2. Choose A Monochromatic Look.
View From 5’2″ pairs monochromatic colors together for a laidback vibe.
Rocking one color from head-to-toe always looks sleek and polished, regardless of your footwear. If you are going for a more formal look, match your kicks to your ensemble. It’ll keep the look from being too busy, which is always a huge plus in my book.
3. Anchor Your Prints With A Solid Pair of Sneakers.
I especially love that Celmatique chose matching oxblood colored sneakers to compliment her striped top.
If your outfit is vibrant and bold, go for a solid-colored sneaker that compliments without competing.
4. Opt For A Dress With Sporty Sneakers.
Gabi Fresh nails this comfortable day look with a graffiti print shirt dress, bold accessories and a simple pair of sneakers.
Sporty sneakers aren’t just reserved for the gym anymore. They create a cool contrast when paired with feminine pieces.
