Glamazons,

I unboxed my Target Beauty Box with you last week and now, I get to the good part: actually trying and reviewing the products!

You know how much I love the Dove Quench Absolute Crème Serum and the Jane Carter Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner but believe it or not, I had yet to try the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Styling Lotion.

I’m a huge fan of SheaMoisture products (I reviewed them here and here) and I’m in awe with the nourishing properties of Castor Oil. It’s one of those magical natural oils that helps your hair grow longer, healthier and thicker. I’ve been using it to grow out my edges and even my hairstylist marvels at my progress.

So what happens when one of my favorite brands and a super powerful natural oil combine forces? Magic! First, I noticed the product smelled amazing. Anyone who has used pure Jamaican Black Castor Oil will tell you the scent is…interesting. But the organic shea butter and peppermint in SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Styling Lotion helps create a sweet scent that will have you smelling your curls all day!

The lotion itself is lightweight but nourishing. The shea butter, essential oils and of course, the Jamaican Black Castor Oil work to really hydrate your curls. And the moisture is lasting! My hair didn’t dry up by the end of the day which it has a tendency to do sometimes.

Finally, I noticed my hair had great lasting shine and definition after I styled it. Since my hair is color-treated, I love that it made the color even brighter and less dull. It’s color safe and it protects against the potentially-damaging effects of not only color but heat. It’s a great way to keep your hair healthy as you experiment with different hairstyles.

To create this style, I applied the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Styling Lotion on dry hair. I then did chunky twists throughout my hair, wrapped them around in bantu knots and secured with a bobby pin. I let it set overnight. In the morning, I gently unwrapped the bantu knots and fluffed my curls. Finally, I put a headband on to stretch my roots and then removed it once I was ready to go!

I’m so happy the Target Beauty Box helped me finally get my hands on the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil line – I’ve wanted to review it for so long! I’m definitely going to include it in my routine moving forward. Have you tried the collection yet, Glamazons? What do you think? Let’s chat in the comments.
