#NYFW: Sultry “Morning After” Beauty at @MarcJacobs by @NARSissist

Glamazons,

We all know “I Woke Up Like This” only works if you’re Beyonce. The rest of us wake up after a night of partying looking less than flawless, but leave it to Marc Jacobs and Francois Nars to find beauty even in those flaws. The worn out, undone, even greasy faces we wear the morning after were inspiration for a stunning (if grunge) makeup look at Marc Jacobs Spring 2016. And believe it or not, I found the smudged eyeshadow and highlight (meant to resemble grease) absolutely stunning.

Here’s the scoop!

Inspiration: “The look is very downtown – it’s the East Village girl who’s been out all night. Marc wanted them to look a little worn, so we created a look with too much mascara, just the right amount of color, no foundation, and dark circles under the eyes. There’s a lot of shine on the cheeks and eyes – they almost look greasy and a bit tired, but still so beautiful.” – François Nars, NARS Founder & Creative Director (who only keyed Marc Jacobs show at New York Fashion Week this season!)

Inspiration: Modeled by an all-star cast including Alek Wek, It girls Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid, Joan Smalls, Emily Ratajkowski and Beth Ditto, the collection seemed to pay homage to the New York City of years past. Set at the legendary and timeless Ziegfeld Theatre (a replacement when his beloved Lexington Avenue Armory was unavailable), the show channeled old Hollywood glamour with a marquee (bearing Marc Jacobs: One Night Only!), fountain drinks, Playbills, a ’70s punk rock band and a step-and-repeat flanked by (real life) fans.

The clothes echoed that nostalgia with their glittering embellishment, pinstripe suits, sweeping hemlines, pop art prints, ’50s hot pants and exaggerated shoulders — all rooted in Americana colors.

Key Pieces: Tweed skirts with swinging fringe hems, sparkling floor-length skirts, shimmery gowns with thigh-high slits, delicately embellished pointy toe pumps, ’50s striped hot pants, breezy wideleg pants, pinstripe suits, silk blouses with exaggerated shoulders, a magnificent front-slit skirt with a pop art print emblazoned across the front, an abbreviated jacket with feathers exploding from the shoulders, graphic collegiate-inspired sweaters and varsity jackets, a glamorous off-the-shoulder white gown and fur stole (on Beth Ditto).
