7 Fashion Risks to Take in The New Year

Glamazons,

How’s 2015 treating you so far? We are barely three weeks in and I can already tell this year will go down as the best one yet. Not only have I crossed a few things off my January to-do list, but I’m doing a pretty good job of sticking to my fashion resolution. *pats self on back*

I don’t know about you, but there’s just something about the New Year that makes me more adventurous when it comes to style. Fashion is as much about taking risks as it is about looking good, right? If you too want to incorporate new looks into your 2015 style, consider these fashion risks:

1. Leather Pants Under A Dress

Carmen-Hamilton-Chronicles-of-Her-Leather-Pants-Dress-Fashion-Risk-Glamazonsblog Carmen of The Chronicles of Her paired a halter tuxedo dress with fitted leather pants for an elegant, minimalist look.

Remember when we were kids and would wear babydoll dresses on top of our jeans? Maybe that was just me. The horror! Well, the trend is back in a much more fashionable way. The look mixes masculine and feminine aspects, and the loose structure of the dress balances out the fitted leather pants. To pull it off, just pay attention to proportions and keep the pants tailored.

2. Shorts With Tights

Taylor-Little-Blonde-Book-Denim-Cut-Off-Shorts-Opaque-Tights-Fashion-Risks-Glamazonsblog Taylor of Little Blonde Book created a stylish layered look with denim shorts, opaque tights, and a leather jacket.

Stand out in the winter with a fresh take on this summer staple. Not only do tights give you the freedom of movement, they provide a practical way to dress for cooler temps without abandoning the shorts you love so much. For an irresistibly chic look, opt for thicker tights for warmth and make sure the shorts are the perfect length and fit (leave the daisy dukes at home).

3. Fringe

I’ve never thought fringe to be a super wearable trend because — let’s be real — if not styled properly, you can end up looking like an extra from a Western film. But this season, we’ve seen a cool, sophisticated take on the vintage look that I just can’t get enough of. Since fringe brings the drama, you really only need one piece to nail the look. The key is to have fun without letting fringe overpower your outfit.

Choose these options:

4. Heels and Socks

I admit I was on the fence about this look initially but I recently saw the unorthodox combination in real life and was surprised at how good it looked! Plus it’s a great way to keep your feet warm and still rock your favorite sandals and pumps well into the winter months. As a rule of thumb, choose socks in complimentary colors and go for thinner styles so they don’t look stuffed into your heels.

5. Mismatch Earrings

Now you have something to do with all those earrings collecting dust in your drawer because you can’t find the other pair! Mixing and matching your earrings is all the rage, and it gives your look an edgy vibe. Keep them all in the same metal family, and mix studs with hanging earrings to keep things interesting.

Here are my faves:

6. Belted Scarf

For the most glamorous way to wear a scarf, wrap it once around your neck then cinch your waist with a belt to create dimension and flatter your shape. It’s the perfect way to keep your body warm, and look polished.

7. Culottes

Frederique-Tietcheu-I-Go-By-Frankie-Gray-Culottes-Striped-Crop-Top-Orange-Slingback-Heels-Fashion-Risks-Glamazonsblog IGoByFrankie‘s Frederique Tietcheu styled oversized culottes with a relaxed blouse for an effortless look. The heels and clutch add a bold pop of color.

Culottes are having a serious fashion moment. I recall having to wear culottes as part of my middle school uniform and dreading them. Color me surprised that the pants have resurfaced with a variety of colors, prints and textures. Counter the voluminous bottom with a more fitted top, and throw on a pair of stylish heels to help elongate your legs.
