That Time Sam Fine Did My Makeup with Covergirl! #NolaCrawl #InstaGlam

Glamazons,

It’s not every day that you get to see a beauty legend like Sam Fine at work. But on Friday of our #NolaCrawl at Essence Festival, Sam Fine not only gave me priceless beauty tips but he did my makeup using COVERGIRL products.

Yes, the same beauty genius that does Iman, Queen Latifah, Vanessa Williams and Janelle Monae‘s makeup (and makes them look flawless!) worked his magic on me this weekend.

Sam Fine gave me a light, natural makeup look with a smoky eye, liner and a nude lip.

For the smoky eye, he told me I can use any color but to be mindful of my complexion when choosing. Since I’m already a color (brown!), he said to use warm colors that complement my skin or colors that will pop against the skin. That means warm browns and olives, or bold blues or purples. Gray will make me look washed out!

He used the brown COVERGIRL eyeshadow on my lids, saying: “Smoky eye can be any color but the technique never changes. Taking a darker shadow and starting from the lash line and blending upwards, this is an easy look to achieve. It’s one of the easiest shadows because it’s not meant to be perfect.”

That’s totally why it’s my favorite and the only eyeshadow look I create on myself (ask Glamazon Andrea and she’ll attest to this).

He also applied liner and gave me some tips on applying it. He said don’t do the entire line at once (too much pressure!) and don’t stop it too early (I’m always guilty of this).

Here’s the final look (and a selfie with Sam Fine):

Isn’t it gorgeous?

I also hung out with COVERGIRL at the Roosevelt Hotel for cocktails and to get glammed-up before COVERGIRL Janelle Monae‘s mainstage performance! After getting my curls touched up, I just HAD to take an #Instaglam picture:

Fun! At the Superdome, Janelle Monae‘s makeup looked stunning during her set and when she came back onstage with Prince:

She’s talented and stunning!

And the fun continued the next day at the “COVERGIRL Pop of Color Day Party” with Common and MC Lyte at the famous House of Blues in New Orleans:
