#NYFW Countdown: All The Changes Taking Place at New York Fashion Week

New-York-Fashion-Week-Fall-2014-Fashion-Glamazonsblog

Glamazons,

We are days away from one of my favorite times of the year: New York Fashion Week. In fact, some early bird designers are presenting today. As we mentioned last week, Fall 2014 #NYFW is undergoing a major overhaul. From venue changes to new designer showings to IMG‘s Catherine Bennett announcing that many bloggers will not be invited, this season will be unlike any other. For one thing, it is pretty obvious IMG is hoping to decrease the amount of chaos that normally surrounds the big event. What exactly can you expect this season? Check below for the details:

Rachel Zoe Cancels Her Show

Much to the dismay of fashion enthusiasts everywhere, Rachel Zoe has announced that her runway show, originally scheduled for Thursday, February 13th, is cancelled. Citing the birth of her new son Kauis as the reason behind her decision, Rachel said: “As a new mother, my newborn son is too young to travel with me, and I’m unable to leave him for the amount of time required to appropriately prepare for the show in New York, but look forward to being back on the NYFW calendar in September.” I will miss seeing those bohemian inspired pieces strut down the runway. *Tear*

Brand New Lobby

IMG has redesigned the lobbies for a better experience, including more space for editors and designers and enhanced lighting. Designers will be able to hosts events there before or after their shows if they choose to.

New Designers Showing!

Out with the old and in with the new! Shaking things up a bit, this will mark the first year that Manolo Blahnik and Coach will participate in the event. Manolo Blahnik announced his first #NYFW show via an Instagram post featuring a pair of his shoes floating above NYC. The show will take place on February 9th between 11:00AM and 2:00PM. Coach will also showcase its fall line for the first time at #NYFW with a series of presentations from February 6th to February 10th, featuring handbags, shoes, and ready-to-wear pieces. Can’t wait!

Watch Fashion Shows Online with IMG’s Digital District

For designers to showcase their collections virtually to those who may otherwise not see it, IMG is setting up a Digital District. Shows will be streamed on site to the internet so Fashion Week fans everywhere can get the full experience.

Everyone’s Moving!

Michael Kors and Diane von Furstenberg are switching things up too this season. This marks the first time that the designers won’t present at Lincoln Center, opting instead to show at Spring Studios. If that isn’t shocking enough, Alexander Wang and Vera Wang will both be showing off-site this year at Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn and Dia Center For the Arts in Manhattan, respectively.

More Shuttles!

This season, Fashion Week attendees won’t have to sprint in heels from one show to another. IMG will run shuttles between the tents, The Hub, and all District Associate shows. This will hopefully prevent breakdowns exhaustion traffic buildup. Do you hear that? It’s editors everywhere breathing a sigh of relief.

Less Bloggers Will Be Invited To Shows

This season, less bloggers will get invites to runway presentations in a reported attempt to make Fashion Week more exclusive and less cluttered. Catherine Bennett, the Senior VP and Managing Director for IMG (the company behind Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week), announced the change and we have our opinions about whether it’s the right move for the business of Fashion.

Plus Size Models Hitting The Runway?

This season, more plus-size models could storm the runway than ever. IMG has added full-figured models to their New York Fall 2014 Fashion Week roster, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that designers book them for shows. No matter the outcome, this is a step in the right direction: IMG is the first agency to offer a selection of plus and straight-sized models to designers for Fashion Week bookings.

I, for one, can’t wait to see all these changes in action! Follow this tag for all our coverage of the shows from front row to backstage:

And keep up with our editors Glamazon Jessica, Glamazon Andrea and Glamazon Makho who will be out and about at the shows. Happy Fashion Week!

Keeping It Fashionable,

Glamazon Briea
