Glamazon Guide: What To Wear To Church #ChurchFlow #PreachersofLA

Glamazons,

Can I be honest for a second? I never guessed that there’d be a reality show about preachers. But Oxygen‘s “Preacher of LA,” which follows six high-profile pastors from Los Angeles, is super fascinating to me as someone who grew up in the church. I always wondered what personal life is like for people who are called to lead. #PreachersofLA shows the human side of pastors and First Ladies, who are often put on a pedestal when in reality, they make mistakes and go through challenges like everyone else.

I especially loved the scene featuring the First Ladies’ high tea! It brings to mind all the mornings I’d see women walking into church, dressed impeccably from head to toe. Yes, church isn’t about the fashion, it’s about fellowship, praise and worship and getting a message, but putting on your Sunday best is a time-honored tradition and treasured part of our culture.

In fact, people are so excited about their church outfits that #churchflow is a bona fide hashtag on Instagram.

You guys know I’ve participated (I live to dress up!) and I consider myself somewhat of an expert on it since I’ve been dressing up for church since I was a little girl.

Church fashion is all about coming as you are and feeling comfortable. Check out a few of my tried-and-true tips on what to wear to church below:

1. This is the time to embrace ladylike fashion.

Think A-line dresses that graze your knees, nude tights, round toe pumps, pearls, gloves and full midi length skirts.

2. The key to church fashion is comfort.

Since you may be standing up and sitting down a lot, you want pieces in non-fussy fabric that won’t bunch up or get wrinkled easily.

3. Dress in layers.

There’s a reason why the church fan has become iconic: it can go from hot (crowds bring heat!) to cold (if your church has the air conditioning blasting) in a nanosecond. I’ve been known to wear cardigans and blazers over short-sleeve pieces so I’m comfy no matter the temperature.

4. Wear sensible heels.

This is a no-brainer to avoid unbearable pain if there are a lot of moments that call for standing up on the program. You also don’t want to be that girl wobbling on your way to the pulpit to drop off the offering.
